How to troubleshoot your Throttle Position Sensor (the easy way!). If your sled is idling low, or high, the TPS is a likely culprit and pretty easy to test if you have the right tools laying around. This is easy maintenance to check during your pre-season tune-up. No need to remove fuel tank or oil caddy like other videos suggest.
This is done on a 2014 Polaris RMK Pro 800, but the procedure should be similar for most Polaris and Ski Doo snowmobiles. I'd recommend finding the right values, in mV, for your particular machine. Use a factory service manual, typically findable if you search manualslib.com or your machine's name plus "service manual .pdf"

Thanks allot you're tip fixed my sled. It read .940 but .740 when I turned the throttle adjuster all the way back. I tuned it according to your guidance and now the engine runs smooth.

Once you hook the throttle back up should you still be at 900 during idle. I messed with the throttle cable linkage trying to get my sled to idle. I'm assuming I just take the slack up in the cable until it's just barely tight?

went to check my TPS after a new engine install. was reading .711 and .928 idle. sled runs great. if i set to .7 and .94 my sled will idle at 2200-2300 rpm and not lower. so I'm guessing these settings are really just a baseline and not concrete, each sled might run different. also my WOT voltage shows 4.31v. while sleds running idle shows about 1.22v

Ok so, I did everything in the video but instead of a multimeter I used a tpstool and my only issue is when I go to tighten the set screw it brings the voltage down instead of up. What am I doing wrong?

Does it matter which side of the ecm power plug you put the positive and negative in from the battery? Disclaimer, I’m not looking at my sled as I type this so if it is painfully obvious when I look at it I apologize.

Normally the black is ground, aka negative.

I have done what you have in your video, seems to work well except now my kill switch won’t shut down my sled nor will the key, any tips would be awsome.

hmmm. Worth checking if the kill switch and tether wires are connected (their in a little wiring bag under the handlebar). I'm pretty sure the keyed ignition connects through the same connector too - my guess would be that the ground is dis-connected as I think all three share the same ground wire. I got fed up adjusting the damn thing untilI I bought a used throttle body with a TPS on it ! That was 5 years ago and my sled has been running perfect since ! Guess my TPS was bad...

Bosch 7677 Multimeter - its one of the best I've used. The internet guys say that the Harbor Freight ones don't work too well and I'd assume their right. If anyone pulls this off with a cheapo multimeter, let us know how it goes!
