Trying out the Polaroid 1000 with expired film

I am sure somone has shared before. But in case someone watched the video and has the wrong idea or is confused, hope this helps; 1. The camera performed correctly, it just needs a lot of light. i wouldnt recommend it for indoor use without a flash. 2. The black and white knob at the front is the exposure compensation. Turn to black to darken the image, turn to white to lighten the image 3. Do not tear the pull-tab out of the film cartridge! you will have alot of trouble removing the old cartridge if you do 4. The expired film performed well! 5. THE MAIN PROBLEM HERE WAS; you used 600 film for this camera. Thats the wrong film for this camera. Try again with SX-70 film instead. SX-70 film has a lower speed/iso/asa and therefore will not result in images that look over-exposed. The Sx-70 film looks practically the same except the packaging so its an easy mistake we have all done! I hope this helps and have fun with the camera!

@@love-ep8wy it sounds like there is not enough light in the room (i am assuming nothing is faulty with camera at the moment). 1st make sure your black exposure compensation dial on the front of the camera is not positioned towards darken or lighten. It should be rotated till its at the centre of the dial. 2nd wait for a very sunny day. Go out and take a photo of a friend/subject in that sunny day. If the picture comes out fine, it means the camera is okay and there was inadequate light in your lit indoor room (which usually is the case)

@@TheEigylyte Sure you can use 600 film in these sx70 cameras, but you need an ND filter to reduce the light. Use an ND filter then you can get correct exposure

Thank you, I've been breaking my head trying to figure out what on earth the black knob does. I thought it had to do with exposure, but I didn't wanted to risk it

You indeed need sx 70 film. Polaroid also really really really likes light. Indoors you basically will always need a flash. I've also discovered that if you have doubts about exposure, it's better to underexpose a bit instead of overexpose.

Will the new sx-70 film work with this camera then???
@FreakTimmah
@FreakTimmah 3 жыл бұрын
@@alicehart7209 Yes absolutely. These were cheaper versions of the folding SX-70 camera so they're meant to use the slower SX-70 film. You can also buy a $5 ND filter that goes over the pack if you want to use the faster 600 film, it basically just cuts the amount of light down to prevent overexposed images. The I-type film will not work with any of the vintage cameras though because it does not have a battery in the pack.

@@FreakTimmah I use the ND filter quite frequently especially since the colored frames in the round frames only come in 600.

I have this camera and I have used the correct SX-70 in date film, with a flash indoors and outside on a sunny day, with it turned one to the dark side, and all my photos look like yours. I think mine was meant to be an ornament 😂

I got one for £22 as “not working” the thing is visually mint, the lenses are amazing, no rattles. The shutter is stuck halfway open, I bet that’s the problem, is it a motor or something?

The knob is for exposure a tip for SX-70 film is that is about 20 iso higher than the old stuff so to get it evened out turn the knob about 1 line into the black side for proper exposure and also please use SX-70 film in the camera or use an ND filter or have the camera converted for 600 film use I don’t want to see you wasting precious film. Great video though and I wish you the best on your future pictures

I was like nooooo please read the instructions, it even says sx-70 film in the film tray. Well good thing the film was expired because I actually wanted to know if 600 would work. So good video but big 🤦🏻‍♂️ for putting in wrong film. You live and you learn. It’s just more convenient to buy 600 so people probably make this mistake all the time.

I believe that the Polaroid 1000 camera expects SX-70 film, not 600. That might explain why your pictures are overexposed (SX-70 is roughly ISO 100).

Quick question can film 600 be used on the polaroid 1000? is that I have a Polaroid 1000 but where I live it is impossible to find the sx-70 film and besides it is very expensive in excess, so I wanted to know if the 600 film is a good alternative or it´s better not to spend my money?
@dangerpowers123

From what I have read, you have to use the right film for the camera. J used the wrong film making this video and the exposure was way off as a result. So Google the correct film to use for your camera and only use that. Although I do appreciate Polaroid film is expensive.

The date on the box is the date of the manufacturation...so 2018 it's pretty recent :D
@NumaticVacuum
@NumaticVacuum 2 жыл бұрын
Even by 2020, 2018 manufactured film is classed as expired, anything up to 12 months is fresh. Stored in the fridge, it can last for about 2-3 years perfectly, it can last longer to get some kind of working result but not as desired from fresh film, if that makes sense.

Also use a flash indoors the plastic lens on these cameras is poor enough with a fixed focus of 4 ft to infinity and with such a long exposure time for the 160 iso film it needs all the help it can get so a flash is recommended for all shots

You can if you use a neutral density filter on the 600 film pack. 600 film is faster than sx-70 film so without the filter 600 film you will be overexposing.
