The build looks great! Just a heads up...Toby won't give you the time of day unless you want a huge building. The claim on this video that they service all these places is not true. We are less than 2 hrs from their facility and were told our business wasn't worth their time. I suppose if I had over 600K followers on YT I could draw their business.

Fantastic! From 1964 until 1971 we lived on a farm that had a large wooden barn. I found it on old maps from the late 1940’s, so it had some age. The bottom edges of some of the side boards were rotting and the stone and mortar foundation was deteriorating. Tenants who lived on the property after we left rehabbed that barn with a concrete block foundation and new boards where needed. Wooden barns may still have a place, but today steel is the way to go. Well done, Josh.

Toby explained exceptionally well and based upon that, I am confident that you have selected the right company to work with for your build. The building itself looks to be a very impressive and useful building to be! As a side note, Josh, I am very impressed that you know what an 'apple box' is in the film world. Here in Japan, they are known as 'uma' or 'horse' (think clothes horse or saw horse), but are exactly the same thing to the same specification and are a staple of the tools that I use in my job.

I went with steel for the cost and to get the most height. What a great idea to pre-drill all the screw holes. I'll be putting it up myself but with lots of help from some construction buddies. Hey Josh, if you are wanting windows in your doors they are extremely easy to install I have done several of them I just bought replacement door windows at Menard's and cut the hole then installed them myself. It was surprisingly easy and it makes you wonder why they charge so much extra. I now buy all of my metal doors/exterior doors without glass and then if I want glass I just install it myself.

My first career was being an erector I done all kinds of buildings some red iron some wood and some just a combo of different materials. For the sqft for a building is the way to go if you're going to live in it. That's why it's expensive easy to erect. I bet it didn't take longer than a week to erect. Here's a tip don't smash the screw's the rubber will rote away and it's like a car body. Do You wash your car? Dust and scratches cause damage. A simple 3 inch scratch will rust through the skin It's not maintenance free.

@ingcampthree4523
@ingcampthree4523 2 жыл бұрын
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Your claim was that the exterior steel would have the same thermal expansion as the structural steel, and therefore the fasteners would remain secure, or something similar. Your building is built with insulation between the exterior materials and the structural materials, this will create different temperature zones and the materials will change in size accordingly. If you or the manufacturer need this explained further I will be glad to assist.

@@ingcampthree4523 Hes full of sh... my 75 year old barn alll the 6x6 8x8 and 4x6 beams and truss are all bolted together.. no bolts or screws are loose or wearing themselves out. The outer board and batton walls are nailed in and holding just fine.. nothing has losened over 75 years EXCEPT a few batton boards that have warped. Also the interior of the building will expand differently then the exterior.. doesnt matter if its steel or wood.. its due to the thermal expansion from the sun beating on it. Metal also gets warmer than wood does when the sun is beating on it...When was the last time you put your hand on a wooden building with the sun on it and burned your hand from touching it ?? Yea never... now go out and touch the hood of your car during peak day... exactly. I also do no need insulation during the summer months in this barn because of this.. Where a metal building like this does because lets face it. the metal is going to cook you alive inside without it. In Virginia weve had a few 98f days so far this year.. when i walk into my workshop the temperature drops 25f easily. In a metal building with no insulation itll be hotter inside than outside. Another interesting thing with wood is in the winter with the heat on.. it actually RETAINS heat fairly well
