Imagine this, an older style ballistic vest with soft armor protection - it looks bulky, covers your whole torso but at the end if someone is shooting at you with a rifle, it offers the same area of actual protection as a plate carrier because the size of the ballistic plates is the same. The soft armor protection is max 3A which protects you from handgun rounds up to .44 magnum and shrapnel to a certain velocity/energy but it's useless to any rifle round. And it's not about the enemy having to hit the plates, it's about the plates protecting the only area of your body (besides the head) that causes almost certain incapacitation/death if hit with a single round.

But getting hit in the lower belly, groin or the leg is nearly as incapacitating and potentially deadly. A shot between the plates into the upper torso is just as incapacitating and deadly. I've heard first hand accounts of it happening. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not arguing against plate carriers. I wore them in the Army and own one (sadly not as nice as yours) as a civilian. Cover is cover even if it isn't ideal. The NCO who gave me that advice is alive because he lived the lesson wearing a plate carrier. I just think they're weird.

Plate carrier je ubistvu samo nosilec plat in nima mehke zaščite, tako kot so to včasih imeli nekateri jopiči. Prednost je, da je tak jopič lažji in bolj mobilen, slabost pa seveda da ne ponuja toliko zaščite. Ampak kot si že napisal, mehka zaščita 3A varuje samo pred pištolskimi kalibri in šrapneli do določene hitrosti/energije. Pri modernih plate carrierjih je ponavadi možnost modularnosti kjer lahko dodaš še stranske balistične plate - to je kar dobra rešitev ampak seveda dodaš težo in v mojem primeru še strošek :) Vse je odvisno od načina uporabe, za kakšno nalogo gre oziroma kakšno je varnostno tveganje. Če delaš patrulje z vozilom in pričakuješ eksplozije in šrapnele, potem bi bil tukaj najbolj na mestu jopič s celotno mehko zaščito + za rame, vrat in mednožje z vstavljenimi platami. Če pa delaš izvidnico v gmajni in je najbolj verjetna grožnja sovražnik s strelnim orožjem, potem ima pa tak plate carrier več smisla, ker je lažji, bolj okreten in proizvaja manj zvoka. Pa seveda mehka zaščita ti ne pomaga proti puškinim kalibrom

Personal body armor is unregulated here. There is an European (or German) armor rating system but everyone just uses NIJ

@@PolenarTactical NIJ is imho way better to use. We use the german classification at work and its so confusing. I cant even remember what its called. Everytime i talk about Body Armor and use NIJ Clasaification everyone theres just 😐🤨

It's ok. I got mine used and for very cheap. It works but the quality of the parts and finish is bad. Some things are crooked. The side rail is so canted that you can use it with any side mount. But i like the gun because it was cheap and i don't care about it so that means no cleaning :D

I suggest doing your own research because there's a lot of keyboard warriors who never owned a plates or carrier. I can't chime in because even though I do own some I'm not an expert by a long shot.

As with any type of gear you must first define why you need a plate carrier and which are the most important features for you. This will help you determine what kind of plate carrier you should look for - you have lightweight versions that just hold plates, you have some versions with other options and you have full modular battle kit setups. Sure, the quality of the plate carrier is important but you dont have one "the best" plate carrier but you have a lot of different options that are made for a certain task or certain specialized use.
