Apocalyptic scenes in Downtown Buffalo from once-in-a-generation #blizzard with snow drifts 15 feet high stranding motorists. Emergency vehicles buried in snow drifts. Hundreds of motorists standed last night. Storm chase Brandon Clement (@wxchasing) and I helped transport residents to a warm shelter. The intense lake effect snow band has moved back in to Downtown Buffalo this evening with another two feet of snow possible. Merry Christmas.

I have lived in Buffalo for 45 years, and this is by far the worst snow storm we have ever experienced. People have been found dead in the snow and dead in stranded cars. Tens of thousands of people are without power and heat! Streets are impassable with over 5ft snow drifts on them. Trees and power lines down everywhere! Keep us in prayer! Help from the National Guard is starting to arrive!

Store staff blew up air mattresses for the shoppers and served hot meals from the deli, says Heather Nickoli, who was en route from Ohio to Peterborough, Ont., with her boyfriend. Store workers also played music and gave people games to play.A total of 50 stranded customers and 48 staff spent the night. The unexpected Walmart stay came as a winter storm pummeled much of Ontario, Quebec and other parts of Canada. Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued weather alerts for most provinces and territories. well, hey, doesn't take much to show Christmas spirit all year round. When Police cannot even help it's wise to call a state of emergency. Merry Christmas for all involved in these events.

I believe the really heavy snow bands usually set up a bit South of Buffalo: This time Mo' Nature decided to shift the focus slightly North. So, this snow isn't unusual for the region, but, it's unusual for Buffalo itself. I'd almost trade, though, IF we (Western KY) had the snow removal equipment: It was -9 F on my back porch last Friday morning. Wind chill was ~ -30. Good thing we don't have any large bodies of water to our immediate West!
@dutchflats
@dutchflats Жыл бұрын
@@SpringIsBACK I actually live in the "Southtowns" of the Buffalo area and you're correct, we are the traditional snow-belt area. We had the 80" snow fall a few weeks back while the city and North had on the order of inches or a foot. My friends who live up there are now experiencing the brunt of this, although now it has shifted into our area and is supposed to give us another two to three feet of snow on top of what we already have. We're somewhat protected from really cold temps by the warmth of the lake but of course get all the extra snow as well.

You see 4x4 trucks in the ditch the most. They think they invincible. They run crap tires, and spin out. Tires make the difference. Many drive AWD minivans , and some with snow tires, for the family to keep active all winter long.

Looks like the middle of Antarctica... Extreme stuff. I'm Scandinavian and have never seen anything like this... (And yes I'm aware that this is the day after the blizzard and I have seen the other videos as well and I'm simply commenting on the newest of the videos.)

Great on-the-ground reporting, with the images telling the story. No sensational headlines or semi-hysterical news anchors shouting into our living room. Stay safe!

Some would have you believe this is normal. It's not. This is not a normal winter storm it's the worst we've ever seen in Buffalo. Josh requested a trade, sorry.

I had to spend Christmas by myself in my apartment, with no heat and no hot water, because there's no way for me to get out of here right now. There's not even anywhere to walk to really.

Hi nanachick have you become a flat earther yet? If not I suggest watch a 13 part series called _What on earth happened_ by Ewaranon to learn that the earth is not a globe. I got it in my about tab.

I give people credit for living in that hostile place. It's not like Buffalo winters are a big secret. Buffalo, Manatoba, the Dakotas, the Arctic Circle....

The city is good about keeping the main drags plowed, which gives them a base to work from when branching out to the side streets. Also there's usually at least one neighbor who has a plow for the front of his pickup truck. We're just waiting for the winds to die down, so people can get out and dig each other out. It really is The City of Good Neighbors.
