Man its GagArina, like the first man in space Gagarin and I guess wether he won or took 2nd place. But she definetally won Eurovision contest in one year. Maybe with this song, our men singers usually win, but Polina did it great in the finals. For me she was a winner.

This is the semi-final of contest. According to the rules of Eurovision, band and instruments are just decoration, music is recorded before the show, and only voice of a singer is live.

GagAra is a russian name for a bird in English called "loon". A polar bird. First man to fly in space was russian cosmonaut Yuriy GagArin. Polina has the same surname. It is proniunced with emphasis on second "A". Correct pronouncation is GagArina.

Actually, google translates "Гагарина" correctly and voice function pronounces it right, except for emphasis. And the "a" in the end of Gagarin(a) is a word ending to distinguish between masculine and feminine in russian language. In english she would be Gagarin.

She did not win neither jury nor televote while Russia did win the televote a year later so how is any of this political. Both Italy and Sweden have each valid reasons for placing higher than Polina in 2015. "tHe ReAl wiNnER" is a comment that is literally written under every Eurovision performance on youtube ever. Just deal with your favourites losing.

Politics aside, I watch the contest for the artists, the songs and the show itself. It is so entertaining. Each year I discover a new artist. Politics are everywhere, not only in "these kind of shows"

Do you know Loic Nottet, belgian contestant at Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 too. He was very young, 19 years old, and his song Rhythm Inside was so good (4th place). Please, could you react to one of his song, "Million Eyes" for exemple. His voice is extraordinary.

In the Eurovision Song Contest all music is on tape nowadays, so the band is not really playing. The voices are all live performed.

Up until the late nineties all songs were accompanied by a live orchestra, after that they turned to prerecorded music because of the technical challenge to get over 40 performances all played live.

on eurovision it is just voice of artist and back voices live, it is not allowed to got the instrument/ live orchestra like in the past - which is sad....

The ESC has got so big over the years - now up to 46 countries competing. Semi finals had to be introduced to keep the main show within reasonable time limits, i.e. 3 hours or so. I remember a time with 20 countries, all Western Europe, except Israel..... End of cold war and by and by the number of countries increases, Russia first participated in I believe 1995 or so... About that analogy between sports and music business...I`m not so sure that artists are treated like coaches or players in the popular team sports....sports world is tougher: you don`t get your medal, don`t win the championship. you`re done. Points, seconds, yards, goals...none of that in music...no "best" performers or performances here. The ESC is a SONG contest, not an artist`s contest....sorry for that rant, thanks very much for that reaction..stay safe ....Greets!

In 2015, the audience saw the biographical war movie called Battle for Sevastopol, a joint Russian-Ukrainian project by Sergey Mokritskiy. The plot is focused on the fate of Lyudmila Pavlichenko, a famous sniper, the Hero of the Soviet Union, who killed 309 enemy soldiers and officers. The woman became the first Soviet citizen to be honored with a reception at the White House. Many Russian historians believe that the U.S. authorities reported the opening of the Second Front after the fiery speech of the Soviet legend before the U.S. Congressmen. In the movie Battle of Sevastopol, Polina Gagarina performed the main soundtrack of the movie, the legendary Victor Tsoi's song "Kukushka" ("Cuckoo"). Almost immediately "Cuckoo" performed by Gagarina took a leading position in the Russian music charts

No this was her semi-final performance in the European Song Contest itself. The contest was held in Vienna Austria that year.

It's approximately 45 countries every year. So there are two semi-finals in order to have a decent two hour final show, otherwise it would take ages.

If you are entering Eurovision world I'm your guy... please check Iceland 2019 (Hatari - Hatrid Mun Sigra - Live Semifinal) and Albania 2018 (Eugent Bushpepa - Mall - Live Semifinal)... btw, this is live performance at Eurovision, she came second in 2015.

The idea of songs for the masses is right and wrong. Remember this is a contest and they are trying to get the most of the votes from public and juries. A song for the masses is a safe play. But in other hand you have countries that takes this as a challenge and as an opportunity to show its background and culture. So they perform another type of songs. In recent years due to the globalization of the contest you can find more styles or genres, and more current artists or music.

The music is always full playback at Eurovision, it would take too much time to change between songs and they couldn’t fit 26 songs in 2,5h. Also Polina was heavily booed by the LGBT community during her performance because of Russian laws and policies. You cannot hear it here because they used this fake applause to cover it up for the final, but she definierest heard it on stage and thus tearing up at the end.

This song was made to justify their annection of the Ukrainian Crimea. It was an international crime, well written and produced, just as this song. They try to look so innocent and supported, but they have bloody hands.
