I have many more memories of that song. It is often fun to make note of which songs you played over and over on an album, and which ones are still around now or made it to the 'greatest hits' album. Seldom the same.

This phenomenal song goes back to the early 1900s OR POSSIBLY EARLIER. So many people covered this song, however, this version was the very most popular. In the 1960s, this was the most played song in the pool hall I frequented. In fact, the Animals had the most played songs in Wally's pool hall. Try some of their other hits like WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS PLACE, WHEN I WAS YOUNG, and DON'T LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD. The Animals really resonated with the rebel crowd.

Great reaction to an all time classic! Yes, as you noticed and commented on, the keyboards were originally back by the drum kit. The reason why guitarist Hilton Valentine was grinning and laughing at the end was that once the camera was not aimed at Alan Price and his keyboard a couple of stagehands came in and pushed the whole setup up to the front for that final shot while Alan Price continued to play as if nothing was happening, which had to look funny. The entire video was done in one take as they had limited time in the studio, so they had to do it right the first time.

The animals took this song to number one in Uk and Us 1964. They were one of several bands just below the Beatles and The Rolling Stones like the kinks The Who The Hollies The Searchers they here explain a better The story goes that they recorded this in under an hour and the cost was only about £20 in today’s money to hire the studio

This is a traditional song dating back at least to the mid-1800's, rumored to be authored by a young woman who tells her own biography. This version is the most famous arrangement of the song, but its lyrics were changed. My favorite arrangement is by Shawn Mullins (2006) who sings the traditional lyrics. The Blind Boys of Alabama also recorded a fantastic version of Amazing Grace to this tune in 2008.

Another Animals song i loved and sang with my unit when we served in the Angolan war for the South African defense force back in the 80's was "We Got to get outta this place" (if its the last thing we ever do.......😊

This is a very old song, from well before the Animals. In '64 these were long-haired rebels by the standards of the society of the time. New Orleans was, since the 1700s, the main port serving the interior of the north American continent via the Mississippi River. And the House of the Rising Sun was a whorehouse. Other versions of this worth listening to, Bob Dylan (folky, off his first album), Leadbelly (from the '30s) Dolly Parton, (from a woman's perspective), Frijid Pink (psychedelic). Other Animals songs of note; "Sky Pilot". "Don't let me be Misunderstood", "San Francisco", "It's my Life", "When I was Young", "Monterey" (contains this greatest line ever - if you want to find the truth in life, don't let music pass you by)

To see one of the places Burdon ended up, try a tune from the Side 3 of Eric Burdon & War's "The Black-Man's Burdon". 5 bad boys from the wronf side of the traxks in my home town. Newcastle in North East England. Eric Burdon is a phenomenal singer & had a huge career. Alan Price (keyboard) was rhe musical talent of the band & went on to fame as a solo performer & songwriter. Chas Chandler (bass) became a huge A&R man and is credited as the man who "discovered" Jimi Hendrix.Hilton Valentine (guitar) moved to America & tried a few different musical projects but never reallt found much success after The Animals, but apparently it was him who came up with the iconic arpeggio guitar riff for rhe intro to the song. . John Steel (drums) never really did anything in show business aside from those early records with The Animals. He went on to be a school teacher.
