Was President Biden's Thursday news conference enough to stop the flow of Democratic lawmakers calling for him to drop out? Democratic strategist Joel Payne and Republican strategist Marc Lotter joined CBS News to weigh in.

@@saintsalieri, he just had one as part of his physical in February and the results have been shared with the public. He’s released them every year since he’s been in office. The problem is that it doesn’t matter how many times he takes one and publishes the results, the goal post will just continue to shift. There will continue to be the same comments there were even back in February: “You’ve only shared results from one neurologist. What does a second opinion say?” “That was last week, what about this week?” At a certain point, it just gets ridiculous. His statement that he’ll do so at the advice of his doctors is completely reasonable. If the records shared up to this point haven’t mattered for those requesting them, what difference would repeating the same thing do? What would make them accept these results as opposed to all of the others?

@@aaronmorgan5183 It's not the same thing. He needs full neurological exam, including a cognitive test and brain scans for Parkinson's. But really he needs to drop out because he can't even speak properly. I suspect he will after letting the Republicans waste their time bashing him at the convention.

This. I watched that press conference, thought it was awful (it was), then immediately saw all the media talking heads telling me how good it was. No it wasn't. I know what I saw and you're not fooling me. It was awful and I rank it above Biden's debate performance but below his ABC interview. Oh and why all the coddling of Biden? A hand-picked list of softball questions with everyone else being kept silent. Why were the rest of the press even there?

@@brandalyn8298, voters should have voted then. There were primaries in which other candidates could have been selected. Neither candidate ran unopposed, but the majority of people voted for both candidates. Biden wasn’t my first choice and I would never vote for Trump, but at a certain point, we need to take responsibility for our own actions (or lack thereof). These are the candidates we have because these are the candidates we chose.

@@aaronmorgan5183 why are we pretending this is true? Multiple states did not have a primary and the states that did often did not have a choice. Biden was the only option on my ballot. I wrote in an opinion. Democrat elites followed tradition and quashed a primary/did not allow Biden to debate. I will vote Biden no matter what b/c the consequences. I’ve also found it impossible to get others to do so. And I’m educated. I’ve read 10 books on fascism. Ppl don’t understand the stakes and they’re not partisan

I still remember going to see my grandpa when he was in his 80s. He drove my uncle's pickup truck around the parking lot a few times before crashing into a barrier because he suddenly forgot how brakes work. He had been a very successful and brilliant engineer during his career and this incident took nothing away from that. But we did have to take the keys away. Joe, you had a good run. For the safety of all, it's time to give the keys to someone else.

Just go down to your local Memory Care Nursing Homes and choose someone who is minimally debilitated, and can read. The fact is, it’s only in Ukraine where cemeteries have been growing so large that they’ve run out of space for the dead, forced to unearth old plots by the thousands. It’s only in Ukraine that you even see gigantic cemeteries that are visibly growing from space satellite imagery-there’s nothing of the comparable sort in Russia. It’s only in Ukraine that there’s daily critical discussions about lack of fighting men, where people are being kidnapped from the streets, women are increasingly in talks of being drafted, etc. Why don’t you see that in Russia if losses are so high? They claim it’s because: “Russia has 5x the population!” But Ukrainians also claim they’re inflicting 5-10x the losses on Russia! Doesn’t that negate the population advantage? Shouldn’t Russia also be reeling in the way Ukraine is? The head of Ukrainian GUR Vadim Skibitsky himself publicly stated months ago that Russian brigades are at 95% staffing levels-how is that possible if the country is experiencing such levels of losses as these people claim? Every single data point we have points to Ukraine suffering untold losses, not Russia. Don’t forget the most damning of all: the POW disparity, that is at minimum a proven 5:1 in Russia’s favor, with recent revelations Ukraine had ~1300 Russians in captivity to the ~6500 Ukrainians captured by Russia. Historical war literature tells us that artillery accounts for around 75% of all casualties, and Russia has enjoyed upwards of a 10:1 artillery advantage for the duration of the conflict. That’s right, the CIA Radio Liberty project just released a damning new report that finds all European artillery ammunition estimates were grossly exaggerated. Are you surprised? It’s clear there is no possible framework by which to argue that Ukraine has less casualties than Russia. Ukraine takes out the odd one-man motorcycle rider here, a random shambling infantryman there, with lone FPV strikes. Meanwhile, Russia is not only dishing out 5:1 or 10:1 artillery barrage disparities, but even more devastating long range missile strikes, most of which go unreported and unglamorized because there are simply so many. The point is that, these are daily, almost mundane, strikes by Russian long range assets which are wiping out anything from dozens to hundreds of troops at a time. - Simplicius

One may analyze the conference performance by separating the substance from the presentation. On substance Biden has demonstration deep knowledge and competency. Sure he exaggerates and moves things around to make him look better. But which politician doesn't do that? As for presentation. It needs work. Question is are the presentation problems bad enough to prevent him from being potus. The answer is no. The reason we were shocked by his poor debate performance is because he has been delivering result after result year in year out. It's his effectiveness as potus that makes the sudden exposure of his presentation issues so shocking. Does he need to work on his presentation? Absolutely. But will poor presentation stop him from delivering for the American people? No. I do not see Zelensky walking away when Biden mistakenly referred to him as Putin. No leader flew home for that either. Leaders are serious about getting their business done. They will look past any gaff to get it done. Gaffs only affect optics. They have zero effect on the course of events.

Exactly. Everyone mixes up names here or there. Hell, I’m 33, and I did the same thing earlier this morning. It happens all the time. You’re thinking about how you need to respond to an email from David that you don’t wanna forget about, but you’re talking to someone about setting up a meeting with Jordan, and accidentally call Jordan “David.” Anyone who says they don’t do that is either a liar. Even during the news coverage about Biden mixing up names, look at how the news anchors and commentators make similar errors.

@@Michele-ccrn, he mixed up two names (and in one of those instances, he even caught it and corrected himself). The rest of the time, he gave in-depth responses about complex topics relating global issues. Everything else you’re complaining about is how he’s always talked. I know people who say things like “you know?” after everything they say, and I know someone who clears his throat every 2 seconds, which both drives me crazy, but they’re both great at what they do, and it’s irrelevant when making a determination about their qualifications. There are legitimate concerns someone may have about Biden, as there are with any other political leaders, but some of these things are just getting ridiculous.

The Meidas Touch has a video reel on how many times trump has called someone by the wrong name. He has done it well over 20 times. Even when the person is standing right next to him. He even went on a rant about Nancy Pelosi but he kept calling her Nikki Haley.
