Polo 6R - Removing number plate light + OEM LED unit upgrade

Hi Shanu, sure I will. 👍🏻 In this case, I got these from Aliexpress back in the day. Since we can’t buy from Aliexpress anymore, I omitted the links. I’ve given the part numbers if someone wishes to get it from eBay or other alternate websites.

Hi Ganesh! Have been following you for years and I've been trying to work on my Polo 1.6 Petrol to upgrade it a bit. Where have you sourced these LED units from?

Hi Hitesh. Thanks for the comment man. I sourced these LED number plate lights from Aliexpress sometime back. I know the govt has banned Aliexpress along with several other Chinese based websites. But you can still search items on the browser, contact the seller, do the payment via PayPal and ask him/her to dispatch it. They are super trustworthy.

Hi. I recently replaced my polo number plate bulbs to LED now my cluster lights and my number plate lights went off. What could be the problem?

Hi Lonwabo, what car is this? Do you have bulb-out warning in the car? Did you check if the bulbs are entered with the correct polarity? Check the fuse? The cluster light, switch lights and the number plate lights are connected to the same circuit.

Can we use 5w5 led bulbs for this purpose , without causing any errors?

Rajesh, you meant W5W bulbs? Yep. No issues. 👍🏻 Plus, Polo/Vento/Rapid does not have the bulb-out functionality like the Jetta.

Yes OSRAM/Philips have nice LED bulbs for W5W / T10

Naveen, do check the Polo Facebook groups. I saw someone post a pair of these converters for 2000 Rs. That’s worth the price. I’ll share the image of the conversion schematic.

hi sir, in my Vento there was a light with reverse camera installed and the other side is company fitted (both are led) but the one with camera is brighter and colour is different form the oem one any solution pls reply....(vento highline 2017) looks awkward to me 😂

Hi Manideep, most reverse cams with the built in LED light have the SMD LEDs soldered to the board and you can’t replace them. And if one of them fuses out, the remaining ones connected in series won’t work. Your best bet is to switch to a unit with just the camera and mount it in the centre of the two OE lights (you’ll have to cut the sheet metal of the boot) or remove the unit, open it and replace the stock LEDs with better quality SMD LEDs (soldering). These are available in your local electronic components shop.
