Could you use a picture of the finished project as your thumbnail or show it at the beginning of the video? It would help to know what we are trying to achieve as we watch you.

I don't remember whether I had commented on this video when I first saw it, but I knew I'd come back one day. Now I'm ready to at least _try_ to duplicate it. I remember you said you were adding the one lengthwise cut, and that's what I'm going to do too. I don't know what it would have looked like otherwise, but your finished work is stunning. I have a lot of Premo here already, so I might stick with that rather than buying Souffle.

Thank you so much for your help...I do use a pasta machine, oven thermometer, my pieces have been small like a pendant and earrings...I have read so many conflicting times on baking... I followed the package directions, and also baked for longer at the 275 it said from 15 min to 1 hour all had the same results...with minimal pressure they broke...I will try the clays you suggested this weekend and also watch your videos...thanks again for helping!! I'll let you know my results!! Also loved your exciting news video and cards!!

I love this tutorial…I use a similar technique when I start my Natasha beads. I use my scrapes to make Stropple cane variation… someone had done a video chopping up the scrap for it… comes out quite differently. I use black for the base of my cabochons… instead. Of the cane scrapes for that reason.cant wait to do a demo on this. For my SEFPCG… of course giving you credit

Hi Gayle, I am new to polymer clay, and your videos and tutorials are great. I've tried a few projects, and am using sculpey III, and my pieces keep breaking, I was wondering if you have any beginner videos that might help. Thanks again for your wonderful tutorials, You are great! Sherl
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching my videos. Here are 3 basic tips: Stop using Sculpey III. It is very brittle when baked. You would do better with Premo or Souffle. They are very strong when properly cured. Second - make sure your clay is properly conditioned. Even a soft clay needs to be kneaded or run thru a pasta machine in order to mix the clay particles and the plasticizer. Imagine that it is like oil and vinegar. You need to mix everything together. Lastly, use an oven thermometer to make sure you are baking at the proper temperature. Clay must be brought up to the temperature marked on the package. Premo and Souffle are to be baked at 275 degrees. If you follow these 3 things, you will be successful. I am doing a How To Series for beginners but I just started and there are only a few posted right now. But if you go back to my very first videos you should get some basic tips and also some projects you might like. Let me know how you do!

Thanks. I have been working with polymer clay for over 18 years! I've been fortunate enough to have taken classes by some of the polymer clay GREATS - Donna Kato, Judy Belcher, Lindly Haunani, Marla Frankenberg, Lynn Anne Swartzenberg, KLEW, and many more. I was also on the Board of Directors of the National Polymer Clay Guild (now IPCA). When I retired, I invited my mother to come visit me when I lived in Florida. She got sick after about 6 weeks and couldn't come home to VA because she needed 24/7 care. I took care of her in FL for a year and then sold my house and moved back to VA to be near family - and some support! I lost my mother 5 years ago and found that there were not many clayers in Richmond, VA so I turned to KZfaq go get my "groove" back. I met someone that was doing some polymer clay tiles. I found out that she really was a decorative painter but liked trying other craft media. She really didn't know a lot about polymer clay so I started giving her hints. She convinced me that I needed to do polymer clay videos. SO - I did! That was in May of 2016. I like to share what I've learned through the years with anyone that is willing to learn. Sadly I've made a few 'enemies' from people that charge for their tutorials. One prominent clay instructor actually threatened me with a lawsuit claiming that I had copied one of her tutorials. Of course the technique she used was not unique to her. I'd seen the same technique from other tutorials but to make her happy I took my video down. Most everyone that is subscribed to my channel is very encouraging and supportive. I'm glad you found me!

Gayle Thompson . Well, I really enjoy watching you and like your thought process. I’m learning such a lot from you and I can’t thank you enough for your entertaining videos. I find it really sad that you’ve made enemies just by sharing your experience freely.

Hi Gayle! Can you tell me what brands of clay you use? Thanx
@Mimismarketva

I mainly use Premo. I would prefer Kato but it is not as easily available and is more expensive. Premo is a strong clay when conditioned and cured properly.

If you are talking about my work surface I have two! My main work surface is a glass mat with a grid on it (link below in Description - click SHOW MORE) but because it is clear and has so many lines, it doesn't do well in videos so I placed a large smooth ceramic tile on top of it. When I try to get rid of glare I put a sheet of Mixed Media paper on it. If this doesn't answer your question, please let me know.

That was awesome I am a newbie at this. Why do you need to bake for an hour and what to you bake you pieces on
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your interest in my tutorials. If you are like I was, you will be completely addicted to clay before long! I bake my pieces for an hour because it makes it stronger. I use Premo or Kato clay and both are great clays. Be sure to always bake at the recommended temperature for your clay. The clay package usually says to bake for 15 minutes per 1/4" of thickness. That is a minimum baking time. The longer you bake (at the recommended temperature) the stronger it will be. Hope this helps.
