Thank you verty much for your videos. It's perfectly FINE to for quiet for a little bit. We SEE you're still here. It gives the ears a bit of a breather and is welcomed. You give excellent, clear instructions as you go so filling each little second of time saying stuff isn't neccessary. Thanks for all of your time and effort.

I wish when people make caning videos, they show how big a chunk of clay that are flattening.
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 8 жыл бұрын
I try to show the clay that I use. But since I was using Kato clay, it was bought in large 12.5 oz blocks and I just cut off a chunk. I apologize if you need more detail. I'll try to do better in the future.

Really pretty pattern. Must be fun coming up with color combos for it. Never seen anyone actually stretch clay this way. It appears to have a significant amount of elasticity. Seems "stroking and stretching" is very effective for lengthening and reducing. TFS!
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 8 жыл бұрын
I replied to your message once but it isn't showing up so I'm replying again! KZfaq has been acting really weird lately! I am totally 'color challenged' so I sometimes look elsewhere for inspiration. I don't remember where I saw this combination but I wrote it down and kept it until this cane! Another of my subbies asked for a 'pink' combination so I took a leap of faith and suggested some colors that I thought would work and she loves the result! Maybe I'm learning a little?!?! Stroking and stretching is a great technique for reducing when the clay is a consistant temperature. Don't pull too hard though or it will break. I have learned the hard way! Since this is Kato clay, it is a good strong, stretchy clay that remains strong and flexible when baked. I love it! Thanks for your comment!

A truly beautiful cane. I’ll wait until I’m more experienced......I don’t think I could cope with a skinner blend that is 3 feet long! Thank you for sharing.
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 6 жыл бұрын
Sure you can! Making the Skinner Blend is the hardest part. After that it's just rolling thinner and rolling up. One day you'll be brave enough to give it a try! And if you mess up - it's clay! Ball it up and start over!

Thank you so much Gayle. Your work and videos are so helpful to me. Would you be able to show all the steps you take to do the Skinner blend (in another video?). I have so much trouble blending two colours due to the spread of the clay that exceeds the length of my 180cm pasta machine. I'm really interested to see how you mix four colours in the blend and deal with that problem.
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 7 жыл бұрын
I am going to start a series on the simple How To's and the Skinner Blend will be one of them. I've shown how to do them on other videos but I have no idea which ones show the process. With a video dedicated to each How To it will be easier to find. Stay tuned!

I think it helps everyone if we know exactly how much of the clay you are using especially the new people. Even if you are an expert it just helps all the way around. If they dont need to know they can skip forward. Thanks love the video. As far as being out of frame she is human she trying to make it for us......dont be so negative people. Put yourself in her shoes and try it. Its not as easy as you think.

A suggestion I have picked up, is to clean your work surfaced and tools, with alcohol. I use mine in a spray bottle. It stops everything from being sticky as well as color transfer. I really like your cane and can't wait to try it. Thank you.

Just wondering if you let the whole cane rest and get to the same temperature (inside and outside) then reduce the outside won’t reduce faster than the inside.
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 5 жыл бұрын
That's true to some extent. I normally let my canes rest before reducing but my recording time is so short I don't have time to let it rest and come back to the studio. BUT working with your hands will warm up the outside of your cane as you're working with it so it only works for a little while.

UGH.. Mine is a lot thinner. I had to go thinner in order to stretch it to the proper size. What do I do with the gaps now? If I don't fill up the space with something, it's going to moosh the design as I reduce it. YIKES.. I'm a little bit TORQUED. Garsh donuts!! Peed off.

How did you blend it and keep it the same size? (Not wider or longer or skinnier, etc...)
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry I didn't answer your question on the other video. I use a common bar magnet that I've covered with scrap clay. I have 3 and place them on the roller of my pasta machine to keep my blends and sheets narrow. Otherwise they will eventually spread out to the width of your pasta machine. I've also heard other people say that they put a pack of cards on the rollers the same way.

How do you cut your cane pieses without distorting their shape? You didn’t freeze or refrigerate them... what’s your secret?
@Mimismarketva
@Mimismarketva 5 жыл бұрын
I use a firm clay. Premo or Kato. Then I usually let it sit a while after reducing before cutting. Warm canes are the dickens to slice.

I've lived in the Richmond area for most of my life. I did spend 10 years in Winter Park, FL outside of Orlando. I moved to keep a job. Now I'm back in Richmond. I loved Florida but had to come back home after I retired and started taking care of my mother. She needed 24/7 care and I needed to get back to family for support. Where in FL are you?

Have you seen tinypandora.com website. You can buy canebender tools along with cane caps to help keep the end of your canes flat while working. She has videos high explain how to use them. I have her Easy Cuff on order. The canebender plus tools will be next. I have no association with her site, actually I live in a different country.
