Happy to hear someone admit they struggle with something, especially when others seem to be able to do it exceptionally well. I've tried canes and struggle with just about every aspect of it. Lovely pieces you've ended up with.

I'm convinced that only with practice can a person aspire to make most of these gorgeous pieces. I have become quite discouraged trying to do what these very capable artists do finding myself up to my elbows in messed up clay. But, like everything else, with practice comes perfection. I still am so entertained watching these tutorials that I quite prefer them over TV, etc. Thank you for showing us what can be possible. I love your creations and hope one day to be able to produce a similar facsimile. 🤎🩵💕👍🙃🙂

I'm definitely with you on simplicity. Very nice. Thanks so much for the tutorial. I sympathize about the allergies - your voice is so soothing anyway. I struggle with throat clearing, etc. myself. This is helping with understanding how canes are put together! Not sure I'll have the patience but will give it a try.

Thanks! I keep coming back to them, even though I don’t much like the process, either! 😂 I think it’s because I like to be more spontaneous, and making canes is so precise. I do prefer surface techniques, and MG, but I just want to try and master canes, for some reason.

Brilliant! When I saw the pendant I thought these were snowflakes - whatever we want to call them - just beautiful. And you said this is a simple cane? Smiling here, as the finished look and the entire process of figuring the pattern out, is far from simple in my mind. Thanks so much for sharing. Not sure if I have the patience to try this - maybe.
@clayboutique
@clayboutique 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. They kinda do look like snowflakes, but that wasn’t intentional, which kinda proves that I don’t really have the brain to figure out the specific pattern I want 😬 It is a relatively simple cane, in that it doesn’t have complicated steps to it. I just kinda played around and hoped for the best🤣 You should try it. You might surprise yourself! 💕

If it’s hard, it’s probably old, but you can use clay softener to soften it. Just add a few drops to it, and condition. It’s Sculpey clay softener, and you can get it from a craft store. Once the clay it thoroughly conditioned, it shouldn’t stick to the roller.

My friend and I tried this and have a lot of laughs with how bad we did it--need lots of practice with reducing and not distorting the cane pattern. 😂😂😂 I took a photo to let you laugh too but alas I see no way to share. We ended up doing chippy choppy and rolling out the design and that turned out well! We have a question though. You do such a great job on your resining. How do you get the sides without making clumps or having it stick to the paper the are drying on? How many coats do you usually apply before you are happy?
