Stencils are commonly found in arts and crafts, but they seem to be almost absent from polymer clay supplies. I've found them to be a wonderful addition to your polymer clay collection. In this tutorial I'll be showing you how to use powders with a stencil.

Hi Samantha- I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy all your videos. You teach in such a thorough, clear way that you make even difficult projects seem doable. You speak so eloquently & I even just enjoy listening while I work. Your art is absolutely stunning- you're a true polymer clay artist and you're allowing people like myself to have the chance to make the beautiful projects you teach. Thank you so much for all the awesome tutorials and for sharing your knowledge and skills with the rest of us. I look forward to watching the rest of your videos that I haven't seen yet, and all the new ones you come out with. Thank you again, you are so extremely helpful and so kind for giving the rest of us a chance to create as you do!

A tip for you Samantha. If you shop on a Chinese site called aliexpress.com the price of the products are loads cheaper (absolutely amazing, actually) than the same products are on eBay and they do not usually charge postage to the UK. They say to allow 30 - 50 days for delivery, but in my experience of ordering from that site, most of what I have ordered, have been delivered to the UK within 2 weeks. You do also have a claim procedure to go through if you don't receive the product (they are usually tracked) as the vendors on the site don't actually receive their money from Ali Express, until you confirm that you have received it. Brilliant site, lots of stuff we use in polymer claying, in fact they have almost everything, whatever you are shopping for at amazing prices. I'm assuming you are in the UK, but if you're not they do seem to ship all over the world. Well worth a look!

Hi, I love your work. I just wanted to tell you because I am a pastel artist, that some of the colors, red in particular are toxic. You might want to wear gloves if you use your fingers. Keep up the good work!

Thank you Samantha! Great tutorial! I enjoy your style of teaching very much! Will you ever show us how you make cabs or beads etc? Thanks again!❤️

Yes I'll be showing how to make beads and projects very soon. I'm getting a base of basic techniques first so that I can link to them when I do more complex videos. That way I can keep the longer videos from being too long.

pretty. once at that finished stage, will it smudge? must it be baked before it is permanent? what I mean is, does the clay have to be cut to shape, smoothed and bevelled before adding the colour? or is there a way to set it while you make eg earrings and pendant.
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 7 жыл бұрын
The powders will still smudge while that clay is raw and to some extent when baked. The best way to protect from smudging it to put a very thin layer of translucent over the top prevent smudging. I'll be showing that in a future video.

Jessama Tutorials thanks. that will give it a different look, too, maybe a bit like the way colours sometimes seem to sink under the surface in a ceramic glaze. I look forward to seeing the effect in the forthcoming video. hope your winter is not too cold right now. we're having a good weather spell, almost like a summer!
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 7 жыл бұрын
You could also try using a varnish like resin, but you still risk smudging while brushing the varnish on. Don't worry winter's not to cold here when you wrap up tight. 😁

I have never tried oil pastels on polymer clay, so I'm not sure. You should try though. It might turn out great.

What works better, pastel chalk or mica powder?
@JessamaTutorials
@JessamaTutorials 6 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the look you want. The pastel chalk will give a more muted look while the mica powder is shiny. Both work really well.

I got it off of ebay. I looked under cake decorating stencils. There are so many to choose from, but here's the specific one I bought. www.ebay.com/itm/Flower-Wedding-Cake-Border-Stencil-Fondant-Sugarcraft-Airbrush-Decorating-Tool-/262691470238?hash=item3d29a1bb9e:g:110AAOSwXeJYEBFT
