I was on morphine and oxycodone for 30 years for old injuries. When I told my doctor that I wanted off he told me NOBODY wants to be off morphine. I insisted that I wanted off and he literally smirked at me. I got on the cannabis program and weaned myself off completely. I’m now down to 1/2 the oxycodone and I plan to stop them too. The doctor got me started but encouraged me to stay on them. I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Long term opioid use can contribute to fibromyalgia.

I just left a comment on a video you made 6 years ago. You're a super-star! I'm on 12 meds bc when I 1st was ill, they put me on a med which caused me to gain an inordinate amount of weight very quickly (120lbs in 12 months), which caused me to have hypertension & pre-diabetes, and a heart attack). I've lost the weight, but now can't stop losing at 5'10" & 97lbs. I refuse to accept THEIR new normal. I want one of my own. Thank You so much for all your positive videos & great information.

Hey Dr. Boster. Yes, I frequently discuss with my neurologist about all the meds that are required to treat my MS. I know that you recommend a DMT but I have PPMS (I'm 60 yo) and all it was doing for me was allowing me to get frequent UTI's and strange fungal infections which required yet more meds to treat. I have been able to reduce my total meds down to Clonazepam and Tizanidine at bedtime to treat muscle spasms that would otherwise keep me awake. I have found that exercise and stretching is beneficial. I'm still working on cutting down on sugars/carbs. Thanks for helping so many people with your videos.- Andy in Vermont.

Thank you for covering this issue! I came to that exact realization today when I got yet ANOTHER medication. It's just grown to excess since a transverse myelitis attack within my MS in 2016. I researched my interactions and it showed 34, THIRTY-FOUR interactions!!! 😳😮 I'm an RN and always check these to make sure I'm not taking meds that have incredibly severe interactions and cause more issues. I've most certainly got to discuss with my doctors to see how I can reduce any unnecessary medications at my next follow-up appointment.

Being in year 26 of my MS, I have been combining three MS-meds for 3 years (before that, it was two drugs for 6 years). Besides the main (=expensive) MS-medication (currently Ocrevus) I am on, I have been taking Solifenacin (proven by a study to help remyelination in mice) for ages. It also helps me a lot to sleep through the night with none/one toilet trip, instead of 2-4! A few years ago I added Simvastatin, which has shown similar effects in that same study and it is now in phase-3 study towards becoming an official (=expensive) MS-medication.

If you don’t mind my asking I’m really interested in switching my maintenance medication from Vumerity to Ocrevus. Has your experience with it been positive? A pill is definitely a step up from the injection meds which were the only available treatments when I was first diagnosed but love the idea of not having to take those four pills everyday ❤
@Jerusalem_Warrior

@@angiebear8727 Ocravus is generally well tolerated, keeps the MRIs stable, takes part of one morning twice a year, and certainly doesn't involve self injections and pills. The only down side, for me anyway, is feeling that my immune system is back in action a month before the infusion, and recovering from killing it for a month after! 🙄

Was on so many medications. But 6 months after final dose of Mavenclad, I told my neuro that I was planning on having a baby. The amount of meds drastically reduced, so now I'm only having 1 urology medication, 1 anti-depressant and the rest are just vitamins D3, folic acid, methylcobalamin. Haven't had relapses (other than 1 after COVID-19 infection) after Mavenclad, so that also played a role in my daily pain reduced. Hated the 10 meds swallowed in the morning, too much but it was helping with pain somewhat. Was even told to drink 3L plain water a day due to that. Now no more polypharma, thank goodness.

I am phobic towards medications to the extent that I didn't want to take MS medication when I was first diagnosed a year and half ago. I agree with you Dr Aaron we need to cut down on poly medications and choose only what is super necessary for the time being and give life style changes a shot. Thanks a lot for the video ☺️

I’m on 5 meds plus D, and I’m considering lowering my dose of oxycontin; medical procedures make it difficult to put me under sedation due to opioid tolerance. However, Degenerative Disc Disease and the chronic lumbar pain make me concerned that I may not do well with a lower dose. I do see a pain mgmt Dr who gives me occasional Lidocaine push infusions which help to reduce pain severity. It really is a fine line with managing a pt’s quality of live AND the drug-drug interactions! I heard that’s one reason why med students don’t want to become MS specialists. Thanks for all you do!

Thank you for all the informative videos! I currently take around 10 meds, was on a few more that i gradually weened myself off of. Recently got off of a psychiatric medicine that was for Schizophrenia. It helped a little at a very low dose, so i dropped it and haven't had any recurrence of symptoms. I take 12 pills a day, and one is to protect my stomach from further damage from pain meds. In my humble opinion, the insurance companies try to run things, and big pharma cares more about profit margins than quality of life for the consumer. Doctors such as you are too few but your impact is HUGE!

Don’t take a lot of prescriptions but do take a lot of vitamin and mineral supplements. Have found them helpful so far especially D-3, B complex, potassium and magnesium 😊 Did take baclofen(don’t remember proper spelling?) for many years but haven’t missed it since I stopped. Believe it contributed to my level of fatigue and brain fog more then it helped with spasms 😊

Hi, Dr. Boster! Thank you for all of your extremely educational videos. I will keep this short. My son was diagnosed with MS 2 years ago. He is on about 23 different meds. It is impossible to get his PCP and his Neurologist to commit to looking at his meds list. The PCP says, "I can only deal with symptoms that are not MS related," and his Neurologist only looks at meds like Aubagio without regard to all the others. Is it OK to contact you for a second opinion on his meds? I would set up an appointment to see you instead, but we don't live anywhere near you. We're well over 1,200 miles away. Your videos are invaluable! In fact, when I learned from you about Baclofen, I mentioned it to my son's neurologist, and he quickly prescribed it, and his nurse's attitude was like they had known about this all the time, and yet never thought to use. It has been a huge help. I don't understand why there isn't more attention to his overall health. By the way, his neurologist also has MS, and has had it for many years. One would think this would cause him to be more careful than to allow his nurse to make too many decisions on his behalf. That is this parent's opinion. We like his neurologist, but not enough to see my son still suffering and hurting. Do you do video conferencing to interview my son to discuss his meds and symptoms? Thank you for all you do!

Well, the Fampyra didn't do anything for me, and I never started Lyrica or Adderall, so - besides for the Ocravus - I just don't bother with any medications. Stretches for the spasticity, sleep (and coffee ☕) for the fatigue, water and pelvic floor exercise (and extra visits to the bathroom) for the urine retention / urgency, and exercise, sunshine and supreme gratitude that at least I'm in a good mood! 😅 Happy summer from Jerusalem! ☀ 🌊 🐦🌱

Gratitude for our lives is so important. The One that created me knows both my pain and my limits. I’m hurting, bored and lonesome. He gave me a garden for sunshine, exercise and excellent food. He gave me the best wife that any man could ever hope for. I have sufficiency to be able to help my mother and sons in limited fashion but at least I can help. Being disabled has really put strictures on my daily life but it keeps me home and from spending excessively, allowing me to help my family in these trying times. I’m a blessed man with much to be thankful for. I truly am grateful for all the good in my life. Did I mention my 3 dogs? They are a constant source of joy!
