The only thing I’d be worried about if I owned one of those is that massive coil spring. I’m sure that thing has so much tension right now that one little slip of those gears is gonna make it EXPLODE. And I wouldn’t doubt that they did back in the day-quite often.

They are rare survivors, possibly for reasons that you mention, I would certainly never reccommend standing above them while using them just in case....
