I like the work, you could probably take something like that, make a mold from it and do a more durable, fiberglass or concrete wall. Maybe produce sections that could be used for faux stone siding on a house. What I've done for several people who had plain cinderblock walls or foundations is to paint them to look like stone. I've matched existing stone as well as just making them up from scratch maybe hiding a lizard or two somewhere. With the right shading looks perfectly 3D. i use mainly masking tape, sponges and many many colors of spray paint. One lady didn't like the look of the electrical boxes and conduit on the side of her brick house...I painted it all to match the brick and virtually disappear.

Back in 1988 I was the lead sculptor on a commercial. My job was to carve and paint three interior walls to look like flagstone. When I saw the commercial on tv, I was convinced that they reshot it in a real house. It looked incredible. Not that my talents were great, but the process was simple enough that I could pull it off. It’s really not that hard to do.

Very nice work, maybe a better poly foam would have been the graphited version that already looks like a rock / concrete and present no white! It seems people in the UK don't know about this amazing product.
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios 7 жыл бұрын
leokimvideo Haha well it needed to be a quick turn around job. In which it would have taken a few days to order new materials. Not only that, but any polystyrene we don't use is already in its white state. We would have had to paint this regardless. And if it was grey, it might have been easy to miss spots

I don’t see how it could have turned out any better. You know they say, “do what you do well and stick with it“. I think it’s wonderful. I do have one concern though. I know there are some pretty harsh fumes put out by the cutting of styrofoam, not to mention the painting. Please protect your lungs. Really brilliant, as they say on Harry Potter. Lol. Hi from the USA.

hi is “flexible concrete render” the same as “acrylic render” which i believe is concrete with acrylic added? is that what makes the concrete flexible? thank you
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. We use the term flexible, not as though you can bend and flex it. But it sort of naturally contracts and expands in the heat and cold. It's not plastic or actually bendy

Hey Dash, it was a very, very thin fibreglass. We call it a "tissue paper" when we refer to it here at the studio. But it's not really paper. Just very thin glass fibre that you can track onto and through.

I really want a faux stone wall for one wall of my home.. the average price is about $2500- $3,000. I can't help but think that the first company that comes up with a version of the faux stone panels made of dense foam -- is going to make a killing. This company seems like they could easily form a prototype and have it mass produced, as the only thing currently that is cheaper than faux stone -- is wall paper printed with stone lol!

@AdenHynesSculptureStudios
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios 9 жыл бұрын
2Awesome Exactly. A real wall would presumably need to be built on site, and is difficult to move or transport in one piece. The polystyrene can be lifted by a couple of people in seconds. and moved multiple times once made. Also easily disposed of, rather than heavy stone pieces. (Also didn't cost £18,000 anyways ;)
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios
@AdenHynesSculptureStudios 9 жыл бұрын
Stone2D3D Good save ;) not quite 18k thought. It was requested more for health and safety and speed on site, not to damage the floor etc. We made this quite quickly too, so we were able to keep labour costs down.
