Its super sad and depressing. Its a stark tale of the unstoppable "progress" of human society and how we literally destroyed the planet and the billions of lives of the forest animals. There are happy moments, but the implications of the ending are incredibly depressing, especially knowing that the decades since the movie released, things have only gotten exponentially worse.
