Nothing more fun than catching fish, no matter if they're small or if you're throwing them back! We were fortunate enough to have a couple days over 72 where we could get out and fish, and pretend it was summer. Unfortunately, this week our weather is back to cold and rainy. We do officially have 5 limb lines that in 4 days have not caught a fish or lost bait, one trotline set as of Wednesday, March 15th, and another to set this weekend. It is early to be running lines with any sort of expectation, but honestly yall, this winter has been long and boring. We couldn't wait any longer.

Wow! Spring fishing, we're still trying to let the rivers subside from all of the rain here in Northern California. Looks like more rain coming starting on Sunday. It'll be a while before we can get out into the water here. You guys look like fun fishing for blue gills......................

I miss pond fishing. I don't currently have access anymore to a pond to fish in. My dad had a pond on his acreage. He passed away a couple years ago. His siblings came in, took the land from under me, and sold it off. It was his pride and joy. Since then, I haven't even been able to fish, as doing so, just reminds me of the ordeal, and breaks my heart. So now, I just watch other people fish. Sort of therapy I suppose.

Lol the fickle fish of fate. You clearly aren't letting them know you want to help. That you have a nice pan of warm butter for them......well that or you're holding your tongue all wrong. While we're still fishing thru the ice with 5 ft of snow in the flats. While being under a wind chill advisory for tomorrow and more snow forecast for next week. However comma being the eternal optimist. I did just get my sportsmanship lick. Fishing, upland game birds, deer and elk tags. I also got my turkey and put in for moose and antelope. I also got my new boat registration decals albeit it will probably be a month before the snow gives it up........my tomatoes are doing well tho.......glad to see you guys out with the insane weather you're having

Where there's bluegill/brim/sunfish, there's also bass & catfish (as ya'll have proven). I should rig a special bass/crappie adjustable float/leader/lure setup for ya'll (an absolute irresistible setup, and very lightweight). 'Learned how at Yellowstone Lake, by old-timers out there to catch trout...brought it home & tried it in a smallish local lake. "KILLED" 'em !!! (bass, crappie, LARGE bluegill, etc.)...stringered out X 2. Let me know if ya wanna try one of your own, or I can send you a list of what you need to pick up, up where Josh & you live. Heckova lotta fun.... All the very best to you two, from Florida.

I like using those kinds of crankbaits also, one think i like to do with em is to give em a jerk, between cranks of the reel, so it gives the lure an irregular action as it dives down. Really triggers the Bass into attacking it. Changing up the action can really mean the difference in going on with the smell of fish on your hands, or going home with something to batter with flour. Wink Wink

I'm definitely learning, this pond is a bit of a curveball because it's so small, I can cast nearly clear across it. If I crank too fast starting out, my double trebles will snag the bottom before I can drag it into deeper water.

Any bass under 14 inches should be pulled out for proper pond management. That bass was skinny, a sure sign of overpopulation. So yes, they are hungry. I would love to send you the Mississippi State University Extension Service Pond Management Guide. It was developed in partnership with Texas A&M Pond Management Program studies.

How do bass grow up and repopulate if you don't allow the fry to become adults? Bass have a much slower metabolism in winter and do slim down. This guy will be a little butterball by June. I've been fishing this pond for 15 years, it is very well monitored and taken care of.

@NinaRyndWoodWaterOutdoors I'll DM you my email through Instagram to share the different ways to manage a pond, i.e. trophy Bluegill, or trophy Bass. There's a Catch & Release slot, but there is also a Catch & Cook slot too... I volunteer with the local MSU Extension Service helping land owners manage small ponds. Basically, anything under 20 acres, most are in the 3-5 acres range. Thanks for asking & showing interest.
