Very informative videos and straight to the point. Plus its very helpful that you give the torque values for all the bolts. Keep up the great work.

High capacity oil pan. It is a MUST for anyone with a larger cam so you don't starve the bearings in using it at extended RPM's. Has to be #1 cause of so so many blown engines in the last 75 years.

@@FastMonty I used this exact same technique yesterday installing my oil pan. I ordered my 1 piece oil pan gasket yesterday from Butler. GREAT gasket quality from what I can tell. Flatten out my oil pan yesterday as well, soooo many trips back and forth checking flatness. Thanks again for the procedure steps.

Great video series Mike! It’s been tremendously helpful as I button up my 400 with Butler top end kit. Can’t wait to feel the torque! Bummer about your lifter, but if your around cars long enough these things are bound to occasionally happen. Thanks again for teaching this Chevy boy some new tricks!

Great to hear, Danny! I can't wait for you to experience that torque too! Yeah, big bummer about the recent tear down, but part of the fun. :) Thanks for being a part of the channel.

I keep coming back to your videos for the great content as I put my 455 together. in your experience with Pontiacs is it okay to install the oil pan without the timing cover as I'm using the separate piece gasket set and I'm painting everything separately. can I fully torque down the bolts and then install the timing cover once it's painted.

Hey Mike.... Where did you get that type of oil pan ? Having trouble with my hex head stainless steel bolts I got from Butler very tight when I'm trying to install them around the timing cover

The oil pan socket head cap screws? Give ebay a shot... I think I bought three different kits for the entire engine. Have fun!

Mike! In using these 1 piece FelPro gaskets… I was under the impression that they are “no RTV” needed? But you obviously still use some. What was your reasoning for it?
@FastMonty
@FastMonty Жыл бұрын
I assume you're talking about the one piece "reusable" gasket from BOP? The RTV is added insurance for the sharp machined corners. I do not RTV the whole thing.

Hi Mike..do u plan on adding the internal set screw plug with hole in the center which is designed to sends oil to the distributor gear and cam shaft..of course to get to it the rear freeze plug comes out then you can install one or modify the orig.one..last note sometimes the set screw plugs are forgotten after hot tanking..just curious what you did.Thanks again for these great movies.
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 4 жыл бұрын
Daniel, that's a great point... Yes, we put a .030" hole in the galley plug, to lubricate the distributor gear. And, yes the distributor gear is now composite too... but, I'll cover that when I put the distributor back in. ha, ha. This series is a rebuild of a roller cam vs. a brand new upgrade to roller, which is why I didn't cover the galley plug trick, or discuss main bearings, rods, pistons, etc... Anyway, glad you're here, and keep the comments coming! See you soon!

Monty do you like the look of leaving the oil pan the gold color it comes in once back in the car all together or would you rather have painted it Pontiac blue? I’m at that point right now and have the same setup and was wondering your thoughts.
@FastMonty
@FastMonty 3 жыл бұрын
Good question Tully! I actually like the gold anodize. You can barely see it, if you squat down and look at the headers, from the side of the car. Really depends on what look you're shooting for. There is no wrong answer in this crazy hobby... :) Thanks for the comment.

so I have the same rockers exactly you have, my engine in that area sounds like a sewing machine lots of clakity clack. I did have to put on tall valve covers so they're not hitting those but Im curious , I have the same engine and rockers you have, do you have that mechanical sound coming from your engine?

@@FastMonty right now Driven HR2 10/30 conv. Ive changed the oil couple times as I read I shoud be using breakin for 1000-1500 miles its starting to get a little dirty so I was thinking of changing it to a syn 10/30. Im right at 500 miles rebuilt. I had Amsoil prior 10/30 syn of course. Whats you using? should I keep using break in? Thanks Dan You know if your paint flaked of your divider plates too you might want to remove that vid.

@frekkledipped I assume you have roller lifters? Break in oil should be changed at 100 miles. I'm currently using Driven HR1 15w-50. But, will eventually go to GP1 15w-40. Normal oil will help with the clatter.
