Our 2008 Toyota Matrix threw a code of P0327 recently. I diagnosed it as a faulty knock sensor. It's an easy enough part to replace that most will be able to do it themselves.

You can also do it by removing the alternator. I just did my ‘04 matrix that way.

Your video was good I got my Toyota done with new gaskets and a new knock sensor super fast all in all it only took me 35 minute

Good video. I just wanted to see how to do the intake gasket which should always be changed on these cars if its unknown. I might as well do knock sensor too since its easy to access once intake is off. Good video.

Just did my knock sensor and manifold gasket. Except for that annoying hose in the back on the lower plus the rusted clamps on my air filter hose both sides the job was easy. I cleared the code and once it runs for a few days and the timing is optimized hopefully no more issues. Going to replace the pcv valve and hose too but those parts didn't arrive yet but that's simple....just trying to keep this thing alive a bit longer ;-). These Toyotas are solid....2005 matrix at over 250k and still holding on....good video by the way...most helpful since I've never heard of a knock sensor until my code reader told me....

This is the difficult way to replace the knock sensor. I suggest just jacking up the car and you can access the knock sensor from beneath the car without taking apart anything at all.

Thank you! I just finished an engine swap on a 2010 and was wondering where that connector underneath the manifold was coming from. I think this is the same setup on ‘09-2013 also at least.

Good video, gonna try this at my in laws this weekend or next. Though I might first try and reach the cable and use contact cleaner to make sure its not just loose and dirty before going this far. I dont need a new gasket as i had it replaced a couple years ago along with the starter. Kinda wish i had asked them to do this at the same time if i was psychic lol

Well, I imagine if the the PCM is at fault it would need to be replaced.

Well damn I wish I known about the knock sensor. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I'm doing my intake manifold gasket. I have everything to do it I just wasnt aware the knock sensor was right there or else I would've grabbed one and replaced it since I'm in there already. Oh well I guess

Since I was getting the p0171 code I figured why not do them both just to be sure. It's an 05 after all! Well I've had the car a year now. Its always had this little hesitation when starting it. I've done the starter because it crapped out on me and that didn't change it so I was always curious about it. Well now that I did the gasket and 02 sensor my car is running much smoother and the starting hesitation went away! This all came to be on the 1st really cold night we had about 2 weeks ago now. I started it that morning and it started rough and the idle was wacky. Last winter I actually had my engine light come on but it went off like 15 min later and didnt come back on. My bet is it was the gasket going bad. Either way I'm so happy I decided to replace it because my car is loving it! I also found out through watching videos that these toyotas are known for having the intake manifold gasket go bad. But yea thanks for the video and thanks for the reply. Have a good one! 👊

It senses pre-detonation knock. This knock can be bad for the engine, so if the sensor picks up a heavy spark knock the computer will adjust "retard" ignition timing.

2ZZ-FE engine. There should ne a sticker on passenger side of block. Should also be on driver door jam and in manual. I have the same car.

The 2.4 liter 2AZ-FE engine wasn't an option on the 1st generation (2003 - 2008) Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe or the 9th generation (2003 - 2008) Toyota Corolla in North America.
