It's fun seeing 4:54 the pontoon guy's first reaction when stuffing is to *not touch* the throttle. Let's just keep the hammer down and see what happens. As to pontoons in the ocean, build quality is the issue, they are built to barely hold together in a lake, much less this stuff. So fun when we break stuff because we don't know what we're doing, what good family time we had

Born and raised in SoFla, but now live “up north”, I don’t recall ever seeing as many pontoon boats while down there as it seems now to be. They work great on our northern lakes, but going outside the Intercoastal, crazy!

Why? They can't swamp, they can't sink unless you hole one of the logs (in several places) as long as they have the power to make headway no reason not to use them. Not the most comfortable riding in rough water, not the sexiest but more than safe enough.

If you are going to take a pontoon in the ocean or if the lake is choppy get everyone to the back of the boat so the bow wont dig like this(even better just don't go). Modern pontoons are pretty good and built to be higher out of the water than this "old style" pontoon. I've had this happen captaining a buddy's pontoon but it wasn't in the inlet where you don't have time for the water to clear. Haulover can turn a pretty simple issue into a disaster.

just another angry person who only gets joy by trying to tell other people what to do. My favorite when the other person in no way effects the dictator. Its the same guy who hangs out in the left lane at the speed limit then tries to speed up when you go around him, just trying to dictate someone else's speed. Also like when I blow this stop sign by my house and almost every time someone is at the intersection, they feel the need to honk or point out the stop sign even though all I did was save them time. I have enough rules and laws to follow already I don't need any random citizens getting on my balls.

I’ve probably got 3,000 hours behind the helm of a 24’ pontoon with a 75hp honda 4 stroke fishing jettys in the mid-atlantic - mostly Ocean City, Md. I laugh at all of the haters that say they’re lake boats. They are the most comfortable boat to be on in a jetty as long as you don’t outpace the swell like this guy did and submarine it. But notice, the boat didn’t hold onto thousands of gallons and sink it. It washed off the deck and then he was fine. The stability a pontoon offers in side to side rocking dwarfs that of a v haul. Don’t believe me, look at my pic sitting in the ocean just east of the south jetty at OC, MD. Been doing it for almost 30 years.

Actually, when you think about it, that pontoon boat is pretty darn seaworthy. The pontoon hulls are sealed off from the sea. So unless you capsize or turtle it, it’s going to be ok. Not a pretty ride but it gets you there. Take heavy water on? Ok, it will drain off the raised flat decks pretty quickly as it did here. Completely flood out the engines is about the only other thing that will put it out of commission. So maybe the last laugh is on us.

Well parts are actually breaking off (the seat and the door), if that's your idea of seaworthy. The welds holding the thing together are not spec'ed for these conditions. The floor is just plywood with some screws into an aluminum frame. This boat would break apart with this treatment before long.

Isn't that just one more spot for water to get in, where you don't want it?
