We hope everyone was okay. How does this happen to a 53ft HCB Sueños with Quad Mercury 600's? Is this completely on the Captain? 😳

The Captain is not a Captain, more likely a Googan, he didn't trim the motors, speed was too slow, and on and on.

The Wellcraft captain knows what he's doing. One of the few that you see on this channel that knows how to ride the back side of a wave coming into the inlet. His save when the jet ski flipped was a work of art.

Actually, he didn't do anything and almost got thrown overboard. The boat turned away because the swell turned it. He never touched the steering wheel. Just watch the engine.

@@dannysdailys Nah. He slipped briefly but wasn't anywhere close to going overboard. Looks like he cut his throttle as soon as he spotted the situation developing in front of him. And it looks like he was turning to port - the engine is at an angle. I seem to watching different footage....

@@pete7708 I don't think so. The Wellcraft was constrained in his maneuvering by the inlet conditions, as evidenced by his falling down (and leaving the helm) when he'd made the maneuver. (EDIT: The Wellcraft captain had turned BY MISTAKE! The incoming wave broached his stern!) In addition to the brief loss of helm control, there was a real possibility that he could have activated the engine cutoff switch, which would have had him adrift in a breaking inlet. The PWC had a duty to remain clear of the incoming and constrained vessel, for he had no safety-of-navigation reason to cross at that moment. (I think the Wellcraft may well have broached due to its slowing because of the PWC.)

Yeah , that's a good skipper right there . Very few would have reacted calmly and correctly in that there situation. That's where experience and being comfortable with your boat in rough water pays off . That situation could have ended alot differently, were it not for the experience and quick and cool thinkin skipper - of the center console fishin boat.

We will be traversing the ICW between St. Augustine and Daytona so should be about right. This is only the second Cobalt I've seen in these videos.

Totally different design requirement - most sailing yachts are displacement hulls ie they’ll never plane. As a result, there’s no flattish hull aft, and the bow shape doesn’t need to be “V eed”. It also helps that there’s a couple of tons of ballast on the fin amidships

In the Center Console -- Personal Water Craft interaction, the Wellcraft skipper didn't initiate the life-saving turn; he'd accidentally broached! Watch the video again, paying attention to the stern and engine. The engine doesn't turn at all and a wave catches the stern quarter! I'd already posted about what a great job the skipper had done, but he'd (actually, the PWC crew) lucked out. I think he may have broached, however, because he'd slowed because of the crossing traffic and his focus upon them instead of his piloting. Probably a good thing the CC's Engine-Cut-Off-Switch didn't activate when the skipper fell.

lol @ waves over the jetty. Been there done that. Some 35 odd years ago I had my little brother out on the jetty/pier/whetever at Ludington Michigan one day. Waves were a foot or two, no big deal, a few put some spray across the jetty ... Then there was what can only be called a rogue wave. I'm 6'4" he was maybe 4'8". This wave came out of nowhere, washed across the jetty up to my chest and over his head. The only thing that kept him on the jetty was my hand clamped on his wrist. To this day I haven't a clue what kept ME on the jetty. After that we went back to shore, having had quite enough of the jetty for the day. Go figure.
