Jason Boyd, best known as Poo Bear, may not be a household name, but the four-time Grammy winner has written massive hits for the likes of Usher, 112, and Justin Bieber. After nearly two decades in the music industry, the Connecticut native recently released his debut solo album Poo Bear Presents: Bearthday Music featuring appearances from Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Ty Dolla $ign, Jay Electronica, and more. In the latest episode of Genius' For the Record, Boyd shared the process behind Bearthday Music, explained how he discovered music as a passion, and reflected upon his career as a songwriter.

Zam Art I know right. Maybe I'm too passionate about music or something. But I feel like how can you like the roots but not know about Scott storch, in the same respect how can u have a quality song and not know a) who wrote it, when it came out, why it was produced in the first place outside of the money factor. I guess that's what happens when you have to stream everything, everywhere, all the time just to have access. But for real I am enjoying the transition, I feel like it's pushing all of us as consumers of art to value the art more, covet it, and keep it close to us. How do you feel about it?

Sariah Bishop Yes of course but it depends on who they mainly wrote for and if they are well known. Many don't actually earn much money, even if they are great at what they do.
