why wouldn't you use bondo to seal the slate seams... it's not the 1800's anymore.

answer . I played on the table for years and could not tell by looking or feeling where I though the space would be nor could I see the ball changing in anyway as it crossed over the table. I moved and took the table with me .As I was taking it apart I noticed there was only 2 small shims used for 3 peaces of slate. Since I have watch your video's I'm thinking I got ripped off .So this time I'm going to try to do it my self . If you re-felt will you do a video of how you cut the pockets .

where did you get the idea to use wax instead of other types of hardeners? Is there advantages to use wax over other materials? . How does the wax keep it from breaking a seam.? What happens when a seam breaks?. What causes a seam to break? The only reason I can see that a seam would break is because the slate flexed. And If the slate flexed its because when you place a shim at the edge of the slate you created a space between the wood you placed the slate and the slate it's self. So why don't

@MrTroygates i'm a bit confused since the end result of how i did my seams is perfect. i understand that your way is different and works for you, but isn't the end result all that matters? btw, when should i expect my seams to break? its been over 2 years and they are still perfect. and no, this vid was for the diy'er. its not enough to say "call a pro" as some people cant, dont, wont, etc. a pro will do it as fast as possible. that is not what i wanted.

part 2 So why don't you fill in the space under the slate you created with a material that sets up hard with low distortion something like liquid nail caulking and fill in the space so it can't flex in the first place once you have it level as a final step instead of hoping it wont flex and break a seam. Is there a reason you should not fill in the space between the wood and the slate that was created by the shimming.

The reason I'm asking Questions is I bought a table from Recreational Warehouse. It was one of there higher priced ones. I had watch a few youtube video and I noticed the space between the slate was being filled. But as they were putting the table together they didn't put anything between the peaces. So I asked them why. They told me that today's modern cutting of the slate was so precise no filling was needed . It did look very close to no space at all between them so I excepted there ->

I am an installer of pool talbes and this is not how you do it. Heat the slate first for a couple min then torch the wax off the stick and let it drip onto the table and give it a quick scrape. However you really should only be filling screw holes with wax and not the seams. Leave it to a pro people unless you want to keep comming back to broken seams.
