This video series just saved me big money. I was planning on having a service come out to diagnose my problem. Through bulletin board searches and what I could narrow down - I pegged a new impeller and seals as the remedy. This video gave me (a new pool owner) confidence to give it a shot myself. It worked!!

I swear I used to work with this guy at IBM, but it might just be his twin. This was a huge help. Forgot to use my 7/16" wrench inside the motor area to take off the impeller!

Just wanted to thank you for the video. I didn't need to replace the seal but for the life of me, couldn't figure out how to get the impeller assy off of the motor! I'm replacing a motor on a 1993 Sundance Maxxus Circulation Pump. This helped me a LOT. Thanks!

I had my pump go out today, naturally on the weekend, and decided to change it myself. Your video helped a lot, thanks. All sealed, wired, and back in business in about 2 hours.

Thank you again, we used this video for the second time. This time we could not get the impeller off. There is no flat on the shaft just a slot for a screwdriver.. kept slipping. the pool guy said to bust it off and replace it but we finally got it off with 2 lock wrenches without even taking the back off we put a small one down from the top and used a very large one on the impeller, I thought it would break but it did not. NO MORE LEAKS....awesome!

Thanks guys, you gave me confidence to pull my pump out of my system, change impeller, seal, de-fuser & the rest of the guts that were wasted. The pressure on my pool kicks ass like I've never seen it before. The pool sweep is as rowdy as can be and sucks everything in it's path. You guys saved me big money. THANK YOU! Keep the videos coming! In return, I'm going to purchase future parts from you site. Thanks again. Mike - Discovery Bay, CA

Thanks for the Video. I could not break free the impeller with my hands and was afraid to use any tools . . . glad to see you used plyers. Got it loosened in 1 minute. Thanks again.

Absolutely accurate, totally correct, I took my pump apart in only 5 minutes, cleared a jammed impeller, and am back in operation in less than 30 minutes total!

Very useful. I am also impressed with the way this guy talks. very direct, and focused, the right pace, the right tone, gives information about what to be aware of, no silly jokes. That's how people who wants to post instructional or training videos on youtube should do. Thank you and wish you the best.

Thank you!!! Second one I've had to replace. paid for the first and watched the guy do it. Forgot how to do it just remembered it was something i could probably do. watched your video and worked perfectly. Thanks for the details about the old seals staying in place. even after watching your video, it still took me a minute to realize the old seals were stuck in there. Cost me 50 some odd $ for the part this time vs several hundred last time. Bad day turned out to be great! Thanks again!

Great video, only thing is he installed the (white) impeller ring backwards, When reassembling, be sure to replace it on impeller hub, larger end facing diffuser, before placing diffuser over the impeller.

Excellant!!! First video I came across that told me how to remove the impeller. It doesn't hurt to have imput by someone else. I know nothing about guy stuff. And his comments were helpful. Drop the ego! Other than that very informative! Took me about 30 min. Thank You!

Agreed, impeller wear ring is backwards, unless some models fit that way, but from what I've seen that doesn't seem to be the case

Thanks for posting this video. I was able to change out my pump even though it was unfamiliar to me and despite the complaints of others your vid was fine for me.. It was easy to understand, and I did have to remove the capacitor on mine to access the 7/16 bolt.

Pretty sure the white wear ring was put on backwards. They usually have little letters on the flange that says "this side towards skimmer basket" or similar.

@ 4:15 he says "We're going to replace the impeller ring" and then he put it on backwards. It is actually called a "wear ring" and it says right on the side with the rim "This side towards strainer basket". Also, Hayward video's show it with the rim out too.

THATS THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO ITS WAY TO EASY TO SCREW ONE OF THESE PUMPS . THESE ARE MADE OF PLASTIC ! require proper tightening of these bolts ! hayward pumps are one of the hardest pumps to work on...
@bojngles45
@bojngles45 12 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. About the threads though - the reason they get worn out is due to the impeller not being tightened fully back onto the shaft. By merely allowing the turning of the shaft to finish the tightening job what happens is it is insufficient and when the pump is turned off the momentum of the impeller can spin itself off the threads. This is repeated every on/off cycle until the threads are worn. Tighten the impeller and consider even loctite to avoid this.

First off, why would you take the capacitor off to get a wrench in to hold the shaft. There is more than enough room to squeeze a 7/16 up at the top without any need at all to remove the capacitor. Second I love how you set the motor on its end with the capacitor and other parts hanging out ready for possible damage. The wrench is still attatched. lol. Why would you replace the seal with the seal plate still on the motor bracket? Take it off so you can remove it and clean both sides.

There is only one thing you left out of this.I replaced my seal as per your advice, I did it just as I was told and when I put it all back together it still leaked, So I took it apart again and couldn't find anything wrong, Put it back together and leak. Took it apart again and what I found was the spring part of the seal stayed compressed when I put it on so it wasn't making contact with the ceramic seal. Now all is good.

I had a difficult time getting the impeller off. Curiously the motor turns counter-clockwise-the same direction that the impeller screws off. (Thats looking from the impeller end-Seems like that would be asking for trouble.) A strap wrench would have been handy-I ended up using a pipe wrench on the impeller without damaging the impeler-The wrench is used where the impeller ring comes off. Also had a hard time getting the impeller ring off-Used some silicone lubricant that helped get it off.

@kipcastle The motor turning counter-clockwise contradicts the video which implies it turns clockwise-but this is what I encountered. Again this is looking from the impeller end.

On a very tight impeller there is a risk of breaking it by gripping its outer flange with water pump pliers if one can grip the large outer diameter with a strap wrench which applies the twisting force around the whole diameter of the impeller one is far less likely to have this happen.

I can go on and on about this video. unreal buddy. And yes, never use channel locks to remove an impeller, if its brittle from chemical damage and or age you crack it, but at very least you will scar it up and the honed edge will start to mar up the diffuser which will lower efficency of the overall pump hydraulics, and cause premature wear to the interior parts as well as the motor itself. like i said i can go on and on. please stop making videos your are doing more harm than good.
