Excellent video, I have a similar setup.......one 2 HP pump for my filter and another for my water feature. The waterfall pump finally just gave out after 16 years of service, the filter pump is still going strong.

Thanks for the video, was a big help. Im my case a snake had crawled into the motor housing and gotten fried and gummed up the motor. Took me an hour or so to get all the crunchy snake bits out, but now it is up and humming again.

Hayward pumps are usually a bit too narrow to reach, but if you have a Whisperflow you can easyly manually reach your fingers in the pump basket slot and pull any debris from the impeller out manually. Save you the trouble of potentially having to take it apart.

I have this same pump that was making noise. I went for a new motor and it is way quieter than yours. The bearings in these motors are replaceable and I intend to replace in my old motor for use as a spare. It has run for the last 13 years, so I got a good life out of it.

No pool tech likes to see a NorthStar pump when they walk into the yard. Even with new orings they can be a bitch to get back together. One saving grace is the *unions* at the suction and discharge pipes on the pump. Those can be undone very simply, and the entire pump pulled away from the wall. As far as re assembly, sliding the motor assembly back into the pump housing can be one of the most aggravating jobs in the pool world. The best way I have figured is to stand the pump on its nose. Physically set the pump in a vertical position motor end up. Make sure the seal plate is properly aligned with the pump housing and the locking cam is in the right place. Somehow, that gravity assist works like magic and it slips almost effortlessly back into place. Secure the housing locking cam and reconnect the unions. On a side note, at 12:02 the thin white pipe in the filter is an air relief missing its screen. This allows debris to bypass the filter. Missing screens is a very common issue on Hayward filters. These air reliefs are fundamentally useless, and I have capped off many dozens of them on assorted filters over the years. Glue a bolt into the hole in the manifold where the tube inserts.

Thanks for sharing, but you killed me in the first minute because you stated that the North-star is easier to remove than the Super Pump 2: we own a Hayward Super Pump 2607 x 10. I charged forward to assess our problem; cut the electrical power; removed the drain plug; removed the 4 bolts that secure the motor to the pump; as soon as I separated the motor from the pump - I was then baptized by a 5-minute torrential downpour of rain. I am confident I can remove the motor; then proceed to remove the ground wire - most likely take it into the Aqua Pool Store for their bench repair - save at least $50.00 on initial service call/diagnostic charge. Thank You

I have the EXACT same pump and I noticed there was water leaking from the rear seal. I knew someone on this platform would know how to get that rear seal off! KZfaq University for the WIN!! Great video, and don't worry about not being "professional" with the jargon and all that. The video is worth a million words, so you can call it a DOUGHNUT for all I care. I see how you did it, and that's all that really matters. hahaha! Now, if I have to order the part, I'll be like, "...you know...the doughnut on back." The guy at the pool supply store will be like, "...you're like the 3rd person today asking for that doughnut. We know what you mean. You must've watched Hank's Garage." LOL!

If impeller is clogged will filter still work at first? After 10 minutes the whole process weakens and you could see and hear the spurting of water going into pool. Then gets really wrak

I have a 2 speed north star and swim line filter that is very similar. Good to know how to swap a motor.

Would just draining the motor have possibly fixed it? Would that be a good first step?

Bad thing is is when you put it back together you are going to have a hell of a time I have to use to pipes one to put pressure on and one to turn the rotator ring . Good luck.

Been messing with this POS for the past hour trying to get the motor back onto the pump. took the electric out and set it upright and still can't get it to seat. Going to get some Magic Lube tomorrow. If that doesn't work, it's going over the fence. lol
