Hey! Yeah I agree with you, I was honestly very confused to see so many people criticizing it for that reason, going as far as to call the movie perverted. I feel these people might’ve missed the points the movie was trying to make and were negatively shocked by the raw and brave approach the film took to do so. And regarding the views I’m honestly impressed that strangers even go to watch it hahah, I uploaded it here just to send it to my teacher but I’m glad u did

@@andyrojas2179 i absolutely agree, I think it coming out the same year as Barbie made many go into it thinking through the "feminist film" lenses while yes it can be viewed in a feminist sense it was not intended to be seen as just a feminist film. I also noticed a huge critique was the "baby brain" and sexuality and it being pedophilic but that just doesn't hold up as it is a Fantasy film, it is merely a metaphor and so many are taking it literally. and with the sex work scenes I think society is still at a weird point with such topics and it made them uncomfortable, which is ok to feel but not ok to dismiss the film as a whole bc of it. it is such a raw and oddly beautiful film and it is saddening to see people not really digest it and immediately run to some morality soapbox without understanding the metaphors used. I hope your teacher enjoys it! if you ever did a more in depth discussion on it and the themes i hope you post it here too! it was really refreshing to see a mans perspective on it that wasn't skirting around a lot of the deeper themes or just dismissing them. you did a good job here!

Yeah to encapsulate it as just a feminist film would be a disservice to the movie, there is so much that this movie is and represents, which is one of the reasons that I was so blown away by it; it’s ability to touch upon so many relevant societal topics in such an adequate manner. I’ve never seen any other film do what this one did, it’s truly incredible in my opinion. And while the baby brain is very weird and shocking at first, you come to understand the fantasy and surreal aspect they’re going for and you get how it was such a powerful tool for the narrative. I also feel the brothel scenes felt like too much for many, but I think they were great and necessary for Bella’s and the story’s development. They just weren’t afraid to show what they had to and I appreciate the film for that.
