In Theaters December 8th
From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.
Cast: Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, Christopher Abbott, Margaret Qualley

All I’m saying is I don’t think a movie like Everything Everywhere All At Once would have won so many awards or got so much attention 15 years ago. Is that so wrong? I know weird movies have always existed, I own most of them. But I didn’t know personally anyone else who liked them as much as me before. I’m happy about something. Sorry for offending everyone sheesh 🙄

This is hardly unique or weird. These type of movies were often reformed and reused. The 70 to 90 had many of artistic movies getting accolades. The only problem is it was not recongized by American audience. apparently you cannot be successful if the American did not say anything.

@@User-yf3fz I suggest you watch more movies. And also, perhaps stop using hyperpole words. And while you are at that, perhaps explore more outside of American and UK movies. I somewhat conform to that view. Mainstream movies have overridden the possibility for independent, arthouse, profound cinema to thrive and flourish, atleast in the American cultural landscape. Try watching independent films from across the world and you'll see they do get their deserved praise at film festivals mostly. Unfortunately, box office numbers are taken to be the test of a film's merit although it shouldn't be.

This was truly the most disgusting movie I've ever seen and I hated every second of it. Costumes, acting, scenography, cinematography? Yes, all of that was great. But everything else? Utterly disgusting. It's a movie about a bunch of men taking advantage of a literal baby in a woman's body. It's just pedophilia. And you'd think it's shown in some bad way? Nah, all we see is Bella ENJOYING IT and a bunch of shots of her naked body. It's plain pornography. In the end, she kind of realises she's being controlled, but has no emotions about it, no trauma, even though she was literally raped and imprisoned since childhood. This movie is insane, I get no idea how is it praised to be a "feministic" movie by some critics when all it does is portrays women as some nymphomaniacs that enjoy literal rape and working in brothels, which are somehow disease and violence free. Somehow we don't see Bella crying even once as she's maturing, we don't see her getting angry anymore as she ages, she is literally portrayed as inhuman, all she feels is curiosity and lust. This movie is a male-gazey child pornography disguised as some artsy female liberation movie. I don't recommend watching it to anyone ever.

@@vk69525You mean 20th Century Fox Searchlight, now known as Searchlight Pictures & owned by Disney. I’m a big fan of their work, but they differ slightly from A24. Searchlight says they focus on “specialty films,” but they distribute a wide variety of projects, including biographical dramas, comedies, Indies, etc. Whereas A24 seeks to redefine the boundaries of cinema & the traditional conceptions of human nature, love & relationships. They focus a lot on psychological thriller/horror, stylish cinematography, & dark, complex character studies that explore the deepest corners of a person’s mind & soul. They also give the writer/director creative control, whereas Searchlight looks for films that fit their vision. Searchlight has delivered many quality Indies, but this one looks like the most eccentric A24-like film they’ve offered. I love it!

Here's my review, So this movie makes me feel all sorts of emotions. It's like something I've never really seen, can't really put it even in a category. So without giving the movie away I'm gonna tell you what I took from this movie. First, its about if someone had a fresh start how they would take on a different path. Second it shows just how much men influence women by trying to manipulate, control and confine them. Treating a woman as property instead of a human being. You will not see all demonized in this, instead you will be able to recognize the good men from the bad ones. It shows both sides. Thirdly it challenged even my own thinking and it made me realize how I have let men influence me. I do think for myself but I also believe I'm too nice. 😊 But this Bella Baxtor lady I love...... Her character. Emma Stone did exceptional in this I guess the only negative I would say on it is there is no consequences for Bellas actions. She thinks on impulse alot and even when educating herself she chooses a path that is a little shocking. However in the end she seems to be able to redeem herself in alot of ways The one thing I love so much is she never is sorry, she might be impulsive even cold hearted but she lets herself become open to new experiences. All without letting these things negatively affect her. It's like she deflects alot she doesn't allow other people to define HER. Iove this. It's how I think I refuse to let others get the best of me. But even I can be negatively effected. But seeing this character I think gosh I love to be like this like so unapologetic and adventurious. It shows the double standard of how men are freely to do what they wish but when a woman does it everyone judges her, it shows how ridiculous that is and let's it land right on its head. It's a wacky movie but a good one I would watch again because it's also heartfelt.

It was around February when I came back from college to surprise my girlfriend (we had been together for almost 5 months at the time). She’s not hugely into movies, but I definitely am. What's great is she loved every movie I recommended to her. Knowing that Lanthimos is one of my favorite directors, I thought, "Hey! They’re showing this at the Chinese Theater. Why not introduce her to his movies?" It turned out to be one of the most uncomfortable experiences in the theater. The car ride home was silent. Keep in mind, I absolutely loved the movie, but she stayed pretty quiet until she said how shocked she felt watching it. Don’t get me wrong, Lanthimos really pushes boundaries with his craft, but I didn’t know he would go sexually nuts 😭 About 30 minutes later, she said she needed to process what she had watched and later admitted that the movie was impactful and quite incredible (though she was rooting for Lily Gladstone to win over Emma when Oscar season came along) We’re about to reach 9 months, and I’m excited to show her what she’s been missing in the world of cinema! But for anyone else, do your research on movies you’re planning on watching with your date lol I just got lucky

So interesting u said that cuz I made the connection as well. When Bella started learning about masturbation it made me think of my 5yr old autistic nephew. He’s ALWAYS playing with his private parts in front of everybody, he really doesn’t care..no matter how much times we correct him, he just doesn’t get that it’s not appropriate for a child his age or that no one wants to see him do that. We catch him humping pillows often 😂 The experience has made me start to question the policing of children’s sexuality at a young age (I don’t mean allowing them to engage in sexual activities with others I just mean allowing them to discover their body without freaking out and shaming them). Like yea what he’s doing is unsettling but I’ve been trying to figure out ways to correct him that doesn’t cause repressed sexuality or feelings of shame or guilt towards his genitals. Even him having speech delay reminds me of Bella in the first half of the movie, like using words that mean one thing to express something else, broken sentences, the feeling that he can understand us he just doesn’t understand the laws of language yet to use words correctly etc. so you’re definitely on to something

So...........is everyone just glossing over the fact that she had the literal mind of a child/preteen and the director thought it was ok to have people having sex with her? Even if the characters didn't know the whole story, it was akin to having sex with a mentally slow patient.
@drioladega2607

Yes, it happens in real life too. The characters who took advantage were indeed depicted as deeply flawed and miserable. It’s art, surrealism. What is your point?
@jojackmcgurk4499
@jojackmcgurk4499 4 ай бұрын
@drioladega2607 My point is this didn't come across as a "brilliant artistic vision." When you realize that although she was "advancing rapidly," her mind was 12, maybe 14 years old. Then the movie seems like a pedo's wet dream. The sexual relation without the stigma vecause on the outside, she's just fine. Like the movie Jack with Robin Williams. Except Jack is a woman named Jill and she becomes a whore.

Nope, that’s not what’s happening. Maybe watch the film? it’s quite clear in the film that her brain is progressing at an alarming rate. She no longer has the mind of a child or preteen by the time she runs off with Duncan. By that point her brain is that of somebody about 17 or 18. By the end of the film, her brain is that of someone in there early 20s. Preteens and children do not read Emerson and they do not perform complicated surgeries.

This is the best movie I watched in a long time. Visually, sonically and story wise. Its such an orgasm for your brain/heart/soul. Such an original story, adapted in such a unique way. I wiuld even say, this is a new movie genre - tell me if I'm wrong, but I have never seen or experienced a movie like this. This is what makes people wanna go to the cinema. Its movies like this one, that make people wonder, make them think and feel, longing for more. This should have the hype that 'Barbenheimer' had. Also, Emma Stone is a revelation, sucking you in with her astonishing performance in such a complex, fun, yet surely difficult to execute acting role.. I can only encourage everyone to go and watch this awesome film. You will not regret, if you're a cinephile like me. This has to win best film and Emma Stone truly deserves that second Oscar. So glad I got to see this movie. Magic was created.

@@Dreamcatcher9000 I'm not sure what the 60s/70s have to do with it- I don't find his films to be influenced by half a century ago, unless he's specifically mentioned directors of that time period that he admires. In any case, I actually admire *Yorgos* quite a bit- as I said, I think visionary storytellers need to be supported. But all art is not for all people; otherwise it would be meaningless. I'd love for smo to tell me why they "get" him so I can maybe look at his films in a different light and appreciate them as much as I appreciate *him* if that makes sense.
@Dreamcatcher9000
@Dreamcatcher9000 Жыл бұрын
@@cuchelo1 "I'm not sure what the 60s/70s have to do with it." They have to do with it because lots, lots, LOTS of film masterpieces were made during this time, and Lanthimos has seen and has been influenced by many of them. Or at least that's what he says. For example, I don't know if you knew this, but "Dogtooth" is not only influenced, but it's almost copy/paste of a 1972 Mexican film (so not European, but whatever) titled "The Castle of Purity". Did you know this? I've seen both films, so I know. "I don't find his films to be influenced by half a century ago" Many would disagree with you, because, for example, for "The Killing of the Sacred Deer", they said that they saw Kubrick influences in it. You sound like a person who obviously appreciates good artistic cinema, so can you tell me one visionary European director of the '60s and '70s that you admire, and which specific films of that director you like? (Also, did you mean "some" by "smo"? Just checking, maybe it's an Internet abbreviation I'm not aware of!).

@@Dreamcatcher9000 smo = someone (smt=something) I do enjoy cinema from all corners of the world, but I have to be honest: I'm not as familiar with a large part of cinematic history, even from my own country (USA). I grew up in a small town where we didn't have arthouse theatres that might play Truffaut or Bergman or Fellini. As an adult, I've tried to expand my horizons, but I do recognize that I have a long way to go. I guess Krzysztof Kieslowski would be the closest answer I could give to "visionary European director of the 60s/70s". I've seen a number of his films and I love the way he plays with identity and his use of music is extraordinary. I usually love directors from Spain for some reason, maybe it's the way they mix melodrama and genuine emotion. I haven't seen "Dogtooth" but I will check it out. I've only seen Yorgos' 3 films in English- "Lobster", "Deer", and "Favourite". And I will absolutely see this new one in the theater. I can see why ppl might say Kubrick influenced "Deer", but I wouldn't immediately think of Kubrick if smo said, "European directors of the 60s/70s", as he was American. But certainly influenced by them. Anyway, thanks for giving me smt to think about...
