Want that radio, stacked, pop, sheen, vocal sound. Here you go...
Like the sound or not... it's been here for many years and isn't changing any time soon. Even if I prefer more natural vocals it's been mandatory that I understand this vocal sound and what it takes to get it in order to create modern pop, country, and even rock music.

Yeah the audio doesn't match the video image when I dry the O.R. audio up. I've tried it and it feels better with the ambience of the O.R. left in.

Dr Bob... you never fail to amaze me with your knowledge and techniques. This is similar to old school double tracking where singer records same portion in different tracks. Later, they are stacked to give depth and color to vocals. I have seen it used where singer records in different keys and basically is harmonizing with themselves. It's important to have separate tracks by same singer. It's impossible for singer to record exactly the same way on each track. That little bit of difference gives the combined vocals a much bigger sound. Some try and cheat by just copying same vocal track 4 times then offsetting a bit to mimic actual multiple vocals.

Way cool as always doc. I wish, that for an idiot like me, you had a clip of the vocals not aligned and with effects, just so I could hear the comparison. I get the laser sharp vocals for pop music. Just would have liked to hear the unaligned to compare. You are a music Saint, sir, thanks again.

@BobbyHuff

In Cubase on the mixer you can copy entire channels and paste them to other channels so they have the same plugins, eq, and channel settings. Do you use Cubase?

Thanks Doc...very helpful...just wondering when you would opt for this method over the method you showed on a previous vid using waves doubler (and +-3, +-6, +-9, .+-12cents shifts) to produce the doubles..
@BobbyHuff
@BobbyHuff 2 жыл бұрын
I tend to do the Waves Dbl thing on just lead vocals that aren’t stacked up. It’s a very different sound and won’t give up the power of stacked vocals. Good question.

Fantastic Bobby, as always. Question, do you find as many bad artifacts when using VocAlign as I do? I've tried it on a good handful of sessions and was always really disappointed at what it did to the audio. It left me with quite artificial stretching and mostly unusable tracks. Perhaps in this case the audio was already heavily AutoTuned and therefore it didn't matter as much, because yours sounds fantastic. Just curious if I should give it another try.
@augustauseil

Not Bobby, but I've also found Vocalign more trouble than it's worth. I don't mind timing vocals by hand for a better result and more control.

@@augustauseil I'll bet It was! I do forensic re-records/covers for video games and classic artists when they want to re-record and own their catalog masters so I'm pretty used to doing it by hand but if a tool works without artifacts, I'm all in!
@BobbyHuff
@BobbyHuff 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Steve, I've had fantastic luck with it with very few artifacts. On the rare occasion there is an artifact Ill just fix that portion by hand.

Great video!! I see you don’t use RVox anymore on your vocal tracks. Sound super clean and clear!! I’m thinking you chose MV2 instead for better squash after 1176? Also I couldn’t hear any artifacts on the align plug in like some have claimed. Really high quality video Dr. Bob! Gonna try this on my choruses. Never thought to slightly pan the vocal doubles slightly. Makes sense as you’ve spoken before about placing delay and verb returns at the -10 and +10 pan positions since that area is less used than the other pan real estate. Thanks for awesome info!!
