The reviews on this Homax Ceiling Popcorn Texture are the worst I've ever seen so naturally I wanted to see how bad it really is. In this short video I try to repair a popcorn ceiling patch.

Warming the spray can in some hot water for a few minutes and shaking the hell out of it really helps with consistency. Nice and to the point video.

I have scraped popcorn ceiling before when helping sister renovate but have gone through 4 lower back surgeries, shoulder surgery, and achilles repair in the last 4 years, so I am not up to the task. Had wondered about the product. Thanks for setting my mind at ease for a few spots in my house that need tending to. Subscribed🎉

EXTRA TIP: Avoid partially depressing the nozzle. It results in more splatter-globs that probably dont reach the target. Keep arm in motion. Good video! I give the product an A- for my repair patches. Would use again.

I appreciate this i was seeing the same reviews and was skeptical but it doesn't seem like there are many options for popcorn repair products so it was nice to see it in action. Now I also know that i need to tarp a 1 mile radius to make sure to not make a mess.

Clean up isnt horrible on it. Just lightly wet rags or paper towels. There is no disclaimer about it but if it gets on painted walls it WILL stain the paint.

I've used it. Read, understand, and follow instructions. Fully depress trigger. Practice on a piece cardboard. Go with light coats--not one heavy coat. Have a sandwich. Paint as directed. Smile.

*SOAK THE CANS IN WARM WATER FOR 20 MINUTES!(everyone is saying on the internets. I think Homex added that tip to some cans as well)* I used this 20 years ago with no problems. It was so long ago, I don't remember the spraying process nor how I sprayed it, only that it matched the texture pretty well. NOW..... everyone says it comes out like shaving cream & is garbagio? I have 5 cans sitting in a bucket of warm water now... God I hope this works! EDIT: Came out like shaving cream.. huge globs. I bought 5 cans. When I got to the last can, I noticed a small straw-like spray nozzle attachment inside the top cap. The first 4 DID NOT HAVE THAT attachment! I didn't need to use the 5th can, BUT if I'd known there was a small straw attachment, would that have stopped the GLOBBING? Who knows? Probably! I let it dry a bit on ceiling, then took a wet rough sponge & dabbed THE LOW HANGING FRUIT to try to match the existing popcorn around the patch areas. I have heaters & fans blowing on it as I'm gonna let it dry for 36 hours before I attempt to roll flat ceiling paint on the entire 18' X 6' foot area. I only sprayed 3 areas.. a 3'X3' foot, a 1'X8' foot & an 8" X8" patch areas. I hope it doesn't come off on the roller. Might have to very lightly paint brush those areas? *Shrinkflation! I called ahead to a hardware store to buy 4 cans for another job at $12.99ea., cheaper than Walmart or Home Depot! To good to be true...when I got there, they handed 4, 10 ounce cans!!! Not the normal 16oz. Bidenshrinkflation!* Edit: I have two 3/4" nap rollers. That's what they suggest for rolling popcorn ceilings. It's the thickest, fluffiest rollers I could find. 60 degrees out, 34% humidity. It's now 80 degrees inside my tented ceiling area.
@jeffrandolf5673
@jeffrandolf5673 2 жыл бұрын
All painted. *VERY IMPORTANT! I used oil base primer beneath popcorn where there was bare sheetrock areas & ANY AREA POPCORN SPRAY might land on existing popcorn.* I tented & enclosed entire area, put two electric heaters in with 2 fans blowing up. I got it up to 84 degrees in there for 20 hours (overnight). Very dry & NO PROBLEMO. I lightly brushed the NEW popcorn areas first... for fear of it coming off on the roller. Then I loaded a 3/4" nap roller with paint & painted 106 sq. feet. Just as a precaution... I kept the roller dripping wet with paint so it could not get dry, grab on & pull off the popcorn. All good!

You are to shake it upside down. Spray continually back and forth very quickly. The key is the further away from the ceiling, the better. People put it too close to the ceiling. They don't shake it upside down. I'm told sitting it in hot water before using it softens and loosens it. Then shake UPSIDE DOWN for one minute.
@LyonsArcade
@LyonsArcade Жыл бұрын
I bought some, shook it, you pull the trigger and the stuff falls on the floor out of hte top of the can, like whipped cream. Doesn't spray. I think maybe I didn't shake it enough, who knows. My brother had some a few years ago, same exact thing. The guy down below said he had 4 cans that did that, LOL I think there's a step missing on some of them or something, there's no way half the cans they're selling are defective they'd be out of business already :)

older popcorn ceilings can contain asbestos, but there are 'popcorn' ceilings as well that doe not contain asbestos. Popcorn is not synonymous with asbestos, it is a certain look, not certain contents, that make it popcorn
