An opinion is not slander. Being critical of a game or a review of a game is fair use. They are just trying to scare you. They have nothing.

Surely "Troll and I" is the worst Switch game, not too many games that can soft brick your console. But Alternate titles, you could have gone with "Popeye the Failure Man" :D

Popeye isn't public domain. The name and likeness is trademarked to King Features. The original works are falling out of copyright but the game would be a new work and would require licensing for the name and likeness

Shouldn’t have given them a single inch. This company threw a shameless cash grab out there and now they’re threatening people trying to warn others about the quality of the game. End of the day, this company threatened you. Changing the thumbnail and title at their command is actually a pretty big deal. A lot of folks depend on youtubers for this kind of information, and if a review can be altered because the company doesn’t like it, we got a problem. We may as well just start letting devs script reviews.

To the best of my knowledge: unless you are outright vocally accusing a private citizen or entity of making statements or committing acts that are willfully untrue as a means to harm their standing with other person or persons, you cannot be charged with slander. Making statements of how poorly a game is made or how rough and unpolished it is simply isn't slander, it's an opinion on a product. By that logic, every negative review ever made on a game could hold the critic or organization that made the review legally liable for slander. Even if the video thumbnail is a bit clickbaity and OTT, I have to agree with you and the other comments here, _they have nothing and are attempting to silence you with scare tactics._ That said, John, might be good to get yourself a lawyer in case they try to SLAPP you or file a false DMCA claim against the Popeye video, because we've seen it happen before with some of these companies, Stephanie "Jim" Sterling can tell you that for free.

With everything going on with RGT85 and others, I can definitely see that there is a risk in having a KZfaq channel. It opens you up to this kind of shite. I remember watching that video when it came out. It was nowhere near as scathing a review as the title implied. Sounds more like it was a tactic to intimidate you to take down the video rather than a real intent to file a lawsuit. Glad that you made this follow up video exposing this shady behavior.

I’ve bought games that had the worst reviews just to check out for myself as well. By the way I had no idea it was coming out until you video and I BOUGHT it as a result.

I still plan on buying this game just because I’m such a huge Popeye fan and someday hope for a rerelease of the original arcade game.

They have no legal power over you for the video, but the way you handled it was really good honestly. But tbh I don't see why they didn't just make it a 2D/2.5D remake of the original. Imagine if the graphics were HD-handdrawn to be in the same style the cartoons were in, complete with a film-like filter.

Quite honestly when someone says NOT to buy something gets people intrigued TO BUY something... Some of my favorite games are Fallout 76 and Friday the 13th... HATED on KZfaq but I find them to be cult classic worthy.

Same thing happened to me when I did a review on an Air BnB cabin. They threatened to sue me for disparaging comments about their rental.

Slander requires you to say something that you know to be inherently untrue. Incredibly difficult to prove.

Someone needs to clip "I love cheerleading videogames" to use out of context

When I saw the gameplay, my immediate reaction was that this was clearly geared towards a very young audience. This game was merely inspired by the original arcade and not a remake. For a remake, you’d have to check out the mobile game that Namco put out in 2007, and sadly that game in no longer available unless some neer do well pirates managed to emulate it. I will say that this game isn’t terrible, but it isn’t a true successor either. It only has two looping level themes: sea village and ship, while the arcade had three looping themes and the mobile remake had four.
