Hey, I know I'm a little late to this episode, but I have a rules question about this episode in particular: Couldn't Holly as the psychopath have chosen herself on the final day to leave only Carley and Laurie and thus fulfilling the evil team's win condition before nominations were even open? Didn't matter here, but could have, if there had still been other ghost votes left.

@@achille295I don't think it occurred to them that there might have been some confusion with Laurie's role until that point, at which time it was already too late. This game expects you to know all the roles beforehand so that you can understand what might be happening and clearly some roles come across vague under certain circumstances. x:x

I felt bad for Laurie in this game. He lost on a technicality. He thought he couldn't be the host because his Poppygrower power seemed to be working the whole game. By the time Ben clarified it, the game was already over. (The rest of town is also responsible for wasting all of their dead votes on Carley for no reason, but they were also somewhat misled into thinking it was definitely their final day when it wasn't.)

@@Phyrre56 It was the final day for all intents and purposes and they literally demonstrated that here. Literally the only way the evil could have lost on the "real" final day was if Holly used her Psychopath power to kill Laurie. There was absolutely nothing good could have done to save the game after they executed Carley. Ben was 100% correct: failing to correctly execute on that day lost them the game.

The irony is that Ben talked about how the storyteller should correct and inform players if they are basing their thought process on the misunderstanding of rules and interactions, specifically regarding Laurie’s role and being poisoned, the night after the entire town does just that with it being emphasized no less than twice that the basis for the thought process and their actions was the very misunderstanding being discussed as a hypothetical by Ben when it had in fact occurred.

Carley's reaction to Holly's bluff and then the two of them deciding to share their roles is one of the all-time great Clocktower moments

It was the one thing evil really needed. Cause it delayed her outing herself by one turn. And it let her know to not randomly kill Laurie it was the only controllable beneficial moment for the evil team. Every other moment was bad exce0t for all ghost votes which was just lucky

Agreed! I thought Blair did pretty well this game, too! She even changed her info when she got Carley which was poetic, I think. She didn't even realize she was hiding her Demon.

Carley is honestly too good at this game. It imbalances the game in favor of whatever team is Carley is on. It's not her fault, she's brilliant, but it makes things tricky for the storyteller because it's like she's been given an extra power -- the power to figure everything out with like 3 well-placed questions.

It's freaky. She can read vocal tones like they are a children's book. And knows the game like a savant. She basically figures out the whole damn game by the end of night 2 - every time.

I watch these in extreme amazement at how insanely good Carley is. She always acts nervous but hits it every time. Her finding one of her minions on day 1 was just crazy. Also poor Laurie, he’s really good at the game but no one ever listens to him. It’s unfortunate his best game he happened to be the host. Just painful to see honestly.

I was disappointed in Ben for not clarifying to Laurie that being poisoned is irrelevant to his ability. Laurie specifically brought it up twice within 60 seconds. When Adam B raised the issue during Night 5 it was already too late. Quite often we fall victim to not knowing the logical minutiae of the game, information that nobody should be expected to know off the top of their head which a DM could easily explain.

Yea its the worst way to lose a game, not understanding the rules/ how the rules interact with each other. The only defense I can say is that Laurie didn't ask he just assumed he knew, but thats not really a great excuse. But it was already a shot in the dark at that point in the game there's no guarantee Laurie would have made the right play even if he knew the rules

While Ben will correct most misconceptions, it's a tossup whether he'll correct a misunderstanding that's being used by the evil team to bluff.

Poppy grower seems to be fairly unintuitive from what I've seen. Its interaction with drunk/poisoned and with vortox always seems to leave someone confused.

Carley’s conversation with Holly very much reminds me of the one she had with with Angela as the Damsel, except this one is much more sinister lol. Also nice to see Blair get the Evil win. I think she played a pretty pivotal role too - the false Balloonist info she gave helped convince the Town to execute Carley, which sealed the game for her team. Edit: Also, I watch a lot of BOTC on the official stream, where players are eager to be turned evil, and the Mezepheles will often out themselves before giving them the Mezepheles word. So it was kind of fun to see it played this way.

I think your last point is what makes NRB's version entertaining in its own way. Except for probably Carley and Adam, everyone else is pretty much terrified of being evil. It's such a refreshing change that makes it very enjoyable

I really hope they've found a way to shoot an in person game that works..... having watched in person games of clocktower they aren't great viewing even on the official channel. Works perfectly as an online game particularly from a viewers perspective where you are privy to important conversations and pivotal game moments and getting players thoughts and theory's. Also really shrinks the possible cast and we'll lose some favourites. Shall watch in hope more than expectation, they have the best format for clocktower on yt already and I wouldn't throw it away so readily - let's hope this works as well.

I don't mind betting my dreads on this one. It will be better than any online game you've ever seen. Get hyped.

To be honest, the best Blood on the Clocktower streaming experience so far is with Patters (an official regular) since his BotC setup is pure bliss. That being said tho, IRL games can work perfectly if they have their own "house"; a larger place that is sectioned off for privacy reason so they can have private chats. Also keep in mind that its not live. It will basically be probably shot with 5+ cameras (main room has 3+, and each private section has one) and then skillfully edited so it flows well. I dont worry too much about this. If they would say "yeah we be doing IRL games live now", then I would be worried. In order for the camera to work, you can even mark places on the ground. like "stand here to be perfectly in shot".

I felt sooooo bad for Laurie this time. As if it was bad enough before, now he had to watch as Carley took another Victory lap... I was really hoping he'd figure out Holly tipping her hand when she voted for Adam, and also didn't immediately axe him when he outted himself as the Poppy Grower. Even if Holly had or hadn't known her demon, a bluff for Poppy Grower would have been enough for a potential reveal, but she clearly knew Dom was the safe hatchet throw... Still an awesome game in the end.

Well, that was an absolute minefield of a script, good job successfully navigating it to an exciting conclusion. I felt like there were so many times it could have just snowballed for a side, but it never happened. You took a risk to show off some interesting characters and it absolutely paid off. Well done!

Laurie played an absolute blinder of a game, exceptional all the way through and lost on a weird rules thing that was clarified to the audience and not the players. Really unfortunate. Other than that, it was a great game. Holly killing her team mates was a fantastic content.

The one time Ben typically keeps quiet is when a misunderstanding is being used by the evil team as a bluff. In this case especially, correcting that would have painted a giant target on Laurie, which wouldn't be fair to the evil team that was otherwise dominating.

I think they probably will. At least Carley, if not both of them. She is too big a part of the NRB BotC games for her not to be there for their first in-person game. Unfortunately, I don't see how either of them could be there for future games after that, if they continue to be done in-person. They can't be flying out to the UK every month, nor could NRB really afford to do that. Our only hope is that they actually film like 6 to 12 episodes at a time, and maybe fly them out every 6 months or every year. Not sure if that's feasible, but it's the only way we could get Carley/Angela in every in-person episode.

What a game. Carley is insanely good. Even with no knowledge of her team she was unstoppable. Did help that everyone used their dead votes without even knowing who the leech was!

I think it was kind of shitty that Laurie said aloud that he knew his ability was working and Ben didn't correct him. Then that night, after it was too late to matter, says explicitly that you should correct those type of errors and tells Laurie at night after it's too late to matter.

Another frantic, chaotic and thrilling game. I loved the script so many different dimensions the game can go in. NRB plays BoTC is the highlight of my month. Loved Holly!!! We need more of Holly. Her descension in psychopath, her unwillingness to slip up any info provided by Carly and her singing, amazing addition to the NRB family.

A great chaotic mess of a game, really fun to watch. That moment where all the good players dead voted for Carley! Whyyyyyy? There was just as much reason to suspect Laurie was the host given he said openly that he was the poppy grower and the psychopath didn’t just kill him for it.

I like Adam P's hint that his ability doesn't work when he's executed. It's vague, but not too vague. It also implies he wants to live to an evil player so they might kill him while also saying "If you're good, please don't nominate me." Spoiler: It's such a shame...I 100% believe Laurie would've won the game if he knew that his ability still works when he's the Lleech host because it's before Lleech poison. He literally said that he can't be host because his ability worked when they were deciding who to vote on. He'd know Psychopath didn't attack him when he told her what he is, so he's obviously host. Also, there was no need for voting shenanigans. You could've just called the game after Carley didn't die. All Holly has to do is kill herself with her own ability. Done. Edit: I have zero idea why, but my comment didn't have a "Read More:" so I thought it wasn't working and edited it like 4 times before I gave up and refreshed and saw it was working. -_-

Agreed. What made it even more sad was that Ben talked about how the storyteller should correct and inform players if they are basing their thought process on the misunderstanding of rules and interactions, specifically regarding Laurie’s role and being poisoned, the night after the entire town does just that with it being emphasized no less than twice that the basis for the thought process and their actions was the very misunderstanding being discussed as a hypothetical by Ben when it had in fact occurred.

Great vid as usual, this series has been a ton of fun. One note: I pulled up the script from the link in the notes, and I don't see Poppy Grower on that, and that was a pretty important role to this game. At any rate, thanks again for the show!

Glad I wasn't the only one that thought this. If you're gonna clarify the rule, you have to do it BEFORE the execution, surely? Storytellers decided this game unfortunately, it was really on a knife edge before then.

Man even before day 1 this game seems a glorious mess. Just wanna thank ya all for this great series and Ben in particular for his amazing storytelling. Having him guide us all through this mess aswell as taking the time to respond to viewers comments is very much the iceing on the cake of this fantastic series.

Excellent as always!!!! I dont actually normally root for evil but man was it a stressful ride this time. Holly being both an enormous hindrance (killing half the evil team) and an absolute vital part of evil plan (allowing each evil to know at least one person they could trust, and also being a giant distraction) was a rollercoaster. Love it, love it, love it. In person will be fun, can Tom play?!!!!! Also, does that mean no Carley? :(

I think this is honestly my favorite to watch. Re watching it for the third time. Top quality with the only complaint being so shoddy detective work. Solid 9.5/10

Wowsers! What a game! May i suggest when you go Face to Face, you start from the Level 1 again... at least until you get accustomed to the new way to play...
