If I remember right most porcelain has a compression strength of about 20k lbs/si. So this is what you're testing here. And all of that strength is due to it's underlayment. If you had a void in that underlayment or thinset, then it could easily crack with just the clay pot. E.g. if you support those tiles on only the ends, you could break it by simply stepping in the middle. So laying the tile well is the key.

I’ve just realised something I should’ve said on this video as I laid it the cement bed would of been full. It was good to test that was for sure for my own sake 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Some were just surface marks which just brushed off. I should of done close up,each time my bad.

i once dropped a club hammer on my cream porcelain tiles in my new kitchen by accident. As it fell (in sort of slow motion) i can remember shouting SSSSHHHIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!! as it left my hand. Not a scratch on it, but i put it down myself (I am not a tradesman) with hardie backer board on my 1930's floorboards. A few years later i got a "Bathroom specialist" in to fit me a new shower and toilet and wall hung basin and fully tile the floor and ceiling in matching 600 x 600 porcelain. I asked him on day one why he was using plywood instead of Hardie backer board and he said it will be perfectly fine with Ply. £6000 later and 18 months on, all the tiles creak and the grout has all come out, it was a real shit show. I dare not redo it myself as i am worried that i ruin the wall tiles while taking the floor up. I will get a Pro in at much cost i imagine. Great videos mate, i really enjoy your skill. Stay frosty.

Knocked my big metal post hole digging spade as it was lent on the wall and it fell smack back onto the porcelain tile, it bounced off not even a scratch, I love the stuff just hate cutting it

Nobody’s putting out content like that, all you ever hear is ye it’s strong but none ever shows you just how strong it is, bit out of my price range that one 😬 and I thought a flex wet saw was expensive lol

You could drill to the porcelain but obviously you would need special type drillbit I couldn’t say which one to get you should google it 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Hello there , I am about to install a 12x10feet patio space in the middle of my backyard . It’s dirt right now do I need to prepare a concrete slab before installing the porcelain tiles (24x24") or I can tile directly on compacted soil with cement or tile adhesive ? I am here in Florida USA and they make everything so complicated with additional materiel and added cost !

@@tidybrickslandscaping Thank you for your reply , the person at the tile store recommended just using mortar to create a base with wood around and wait 1 week than tile over the dry cement base

@@tidybrickslandscaping Yeah everyone keep saying I need to do a concrete base , so crazy it’s not like I am gonna have semi trucks going by , it’s just a patio for 2 peoples and 2 little kids , overseas peoples I know just do cruches gravel compacted and mortar directly They don’t do concrete base they don’t even use thin set just cement that’s it

It depends on how well the tiles have been laid. Any air gaps below they'll crack like an egg.

my concern with these is that they consist of a 19.5mm uncoloured substrate and a 0.5mm layer of decorative laminate heat bonded together. I'm worried about how long these things will last, as I can foresee the laminate coming away from the substrate over time or being chipped off by even minor impacts leaving you with a messy patchwork of patterning after a year or two.

Most of them came up ok but the cement was stuck to them still. Kept about 30 of them and about 8 cracked Gave the good ones to my ex for her garden 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

@@tidybrickslandscaping I’ve got to relay some. The lady wanted to know if I could reuse them. Will have to see if previous person put sbr on backs..... hopefully not. Think the curve in the big tiles caught previous person out, especially laying them half bond.

Weirdly I accidentally dropped Nutella on a internal porcelain tile and it cracked 😢, guessing the adhesive bond plays a part to.

Porcelain is actually cooked too high temperatures so I would say the answer would be yes 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Most damage on porcelain is due to rust marks, same for most paving. People leave metal furniture or other things like metal pots etc and it's nearly impossible to remove! I hate working with porcelain, natural stone anyday :)

Actually sandstone same issues and yes you’re correct it’s a night mare sometimes if I’ve left a wheel barrow in the garden on something I’ve laid and literally a couple of days and it’s already sinking in. There are companies that sell detergents for it but it still takes a while but does work it’s called rustex can’t remember company name. Good point rotormasher 🤙

Kind of yeh mostly because some of the tiles didn’t match up with the colour 🙄 so ripping it all up again Tile suppliers are paying for it all to be done again Gutted !!! Paid twice for the same job 😆
