A calm afternoon in mid-May on the Long Island Sound turned out to be a very fun trip. Although no big fish were caught, the underwater footage captured one and I was able to bring home a porgy meal. It's good to see the fluke are out here, and the porgy numbers look solid.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate it! So much fun to catch them on light tackle and calm days too, hoping the water clarity holds out just a little longer, will keep trying to get the footage 🤙

The underwater water footage was awesome. Fluke, porgies, stripers, sea robin.. there were so many different fish down there. Porgy fishing looks like a great time. I’ve never caught one before! Great video Pete

So many different types of fish, right!? I love seeing them all down there, each are cool in their own way. Oh man you gotta try it, it can really be a blast when they are biting, it’s pretty quick action, and pound for pound they rank as a top fighting fish. Taste great too. Thanks for watching Steve!

That's funny! Last weekend, I was fishing out west of where you were in this video, and I saw the same thing... huge boils on the surface of the water! I wasn't sure if they were bass or blues... I tried trolling on my way out to the spot, but couldn't get any takers! Regardless, that was a solid session you had, and it was interesting to see just how coy some of those porgies could be when approaching the bait in the underwater footage! I figured they'd be all over it! Awesome video!

huge boils! Man if only I knew they were stripers, lol. They probably would be hard to catch though on artificial I think. Yea thanks, I thought the same thing about the porgies, I think if I was anchored they may hit it quicker but still shows you porgies can be around but not always want to take your bait right away.

Thanks !! Nice how’d you do in the morning? Love it out here when it’s calm but you’re right the bugs are starting to get bad. Just the other day they were bad in the bay too. Time to start bringing the bug spray. See you out there!

Those first fish you came on looked like striper. They were swimming very fast when I was on them this past week chasing spearing. I thought they were a different species the first few mornings out. It's wild how the clarity has gotten worse in the past two weeks, just a 5 degree jump seemed to do it. I was filming underwater over the course a week and really noticed the change. Great video man, those sea Robbins are thick. Nice to see the fluke rolling in.

Bob they were stripers!! I talked with another kayaker out there on this day and he said he saw them while standing in the yak and they were big stripers! I can’t believe how many there must have been, I saw so many of these surface swirls while I was out. Yea clarity changed so fast, there’s just so much more “stuff” in the water now with that temp increase. Yea good to see signs of life though, I wanna see your underwater footage!

I've been using my ultralight setup lately as I'm fixing the line roller bearing on my stradic 3000 right now. The rod in this video is a shimano stimula 6'-6" ultralight-moderate and the reel is a Diawa AIRD 1000sh. 8lb braid with 10lb mono leader. Thanks for watching, glad you liked it!

Thanks Rene, I always found the underwater footage to be educational to me as well, just tough with the water clarity around me for it to work out. The fish finder in this video is the garmin echomap 44cv. I now have upgraded since then to the garmin uhd 74sv

@@CurrentJAM it’s a risk, I put my older GoPro in it as well, and you have to make sure you tie weaker knots and use smaller lb test line below the camera so in case it snags it will break below the camera and you can still retrieve it

You may have to dive down and bonk those fluke on their head. Or spear those sea robin like those invasive lion fish. I rarely use bait. Bucktail jiggin work on fluke but I only got 2 short yesterday. Haven't use bait for ages, so I might want to try clams again for porgies since I never caught any porgies and never caught weak fish. But will settle for a large sea robin.
@PeterRanieriII
@PeterRanieriII 3 жыл бұрын
haha i think you may be right, these fluke are so tough to get it seems sometimes, def gulp on bucktails or jigheads works best for me too. I usually don't use bait either but if I'm targeting porgies clam would be my go-to. Weakfish will take squid strips but also lots of other artificial baits. You just gave me a great idea with the sea robins this summer though, if I can find a day with clear water, I may try and spear 'em up. I really do see similarities to how lionfish ruined the reefs in FL...but at least they aren't invasive so in theory they shouldn't completely out-compete the other guys
