INGREDIENTS:
Ingredients:
4 center cut pork chops, with the bone attached, 6-8 ounces each
2 eggs
½ cup cream
2 cups Italian style breadcrumbs
6 tablespoons extra light olive oil
STORY:
In the small town of Sorrento, Italy, nestled along the stunning Amalfi Coast, a young boy named Marco spent his days playing in the narrow cobblestone streets. It was the 1960s, and life was simple yet filled with warmth and love. Marco's mother, Isabella, was known throughout the neighborhood for her exceptional cooking skills.
One sunny Saturday morning, Marco woke up to the enticing aroma of garlic and tomatoes wafting through the air. He found his mother in the kitchen, surrounded by an array of colorful vegetables and herbs.
"Buongiorno, Marco!" Isabella greeted him with a bright smile. "Today, you will spend the day with me. We're going to make something special."
Curious and eager, Marco joined his mother in the kitchen, watching as she meticulously selected each ingredient. She explained the importance of choosing the finest tomatoes, the freshest basil, and the olive oil pressed from the trees that dotted their village.
"Why is it so important, Mama?" Marco asked, a puzzled look on his face.
Isabella chuckled, her eyes sparkling with warmth. "Because, my dear, the secret to good cooking lies in the quality of ingredients. We must honor the flavors of our land and let them shine."
As the day unfolded, Marco trailed behind his mother as she visited the local butcher and the market, carefully selecting the finest cuts of pork. Isabella's attention to detail fascinated Marco, though he couldn't quite grasp why the choice of meat or the freshness of the herbs mattered so much.
As a young boy, he began to nag his mother and started wishing to himself he was playing with his brother back at home instead. It started feeling like a punishment. Hours went on before the day of shopping, conversing, and taking the day slowly with the sun and it was time to head home.
When they returned home, Isabella set up a makeshift kitchen classroom. She donned a worn apron and handed one to Marco, explaining that it was time for him to learn the family's secret recipe for Pork Milanese.
Isabella guided Marco through each step, from seasoning the meat and breadcrumbs with garlic and herbs before dredging it in a light coating. As they worked side by side, Isabella shared stories of her own childhood, cooking with her mother in the same kitchen.
"The key, Marco," she whispered, "is to infuse every step with love. That's what makes a meal truly special."
With the pork sizzling in the pan, a golden crust forming, the aroma filled the kitchen, making Marco's stomach grumble in anticipation. As they sat down to savor their creation, Isabella's eyes sparkled with pride.
The first bite was a revelation for Marco - a perfect harmony of flavors and textures. The crispy exterior gave way to succulent, tender meat, and the burst of freshness from the tomatoes and basil danced on his palate.
"Mama, this is amazing!" Marco exclaimed, his face beaming with delight.
Isabella smiled, a mixture of joy and satisfaction in her eyes. "Simple ingredients, my love, treated with respect and cooked with care - that's the secret to a delicious meal. It is important to take the time with the ones you loved, that’s why I chose you to join me on such a beautiful day."
As they enjoyed their Pork Milanese together, Marco understood the lesson his mother had been teaching him all day. It wasn't just about following a recipe; it was about embracing the traditions, savoring the flavors of their homeland, and passing down the art of cooking with love.
From that day forward, Marco became his mother's eager apprentice in the kitchen, cherishing the bond they shared through the timeless recipes of Sorrento. The simple yet profound lessons of that day would stay with him forever, shaping not just his culinary skills but also the way he approached life - with love, patience, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys found in good food and family.

I find great pleasure in finding you on KZfaq. I’ve watched you for years on PBS and today a commercial came on with you in it and I realized that I haven’t seen you in a while. That’s when I came on KZfaq and typed in your name and was overjoyed to see that you do have a video on this platform. Now my appetite for your cooking, recipes, and most importantly your storytelling has been satisfied.
