For people outside of Germany this is how we picture Germans, always doing the job well. German beer tastes better after you restore German steel to its former glory! One thing which has worked for me with regards of stubborn bolts is soaking with penetrant few days before, also using a punch or ball peen hammer to tap where I have access (bolt head or nut). Then few 6 point combination wrenches in the more common sizes would work well to prevent rounding up. Good luck with your projects and thanks again for showing the good example!

That was a very stressful episode and I mean for me as a spectator!! Dropped swing arms, iffy couriers, lost parcels to name but a few horrors. Your killing me. I recall all the work I preformed on my 82' SC and the pure joy of doing just that. Your adding fuel to a smoldering thought of revisting another 911 the yearns TLC. I just spent 2-weeks replaceing pads/rotors (997). Cleaning/inspecting and doing what I felt was needed while front end was on jack stands.

I can’t remember all my German cuss words just a couple come to mind,but I understand your frustration and I know this was a year ago but instead of listening to music on the radio I’d rather watch a video like yours it’s entertaining like music and I like your thoroughness to detail and it does seem like every project we work on, we always have to donate a little blood or frustration. Excellent work, a pleasure to watch. One question as well- wouldnt it be beneficial to use some sort of anti-seize lubricant when putting parts back together? On bolts, bushings etc.

Having done this job on the exact same car (‘87 Carrera) a couple years ago I was interested to see how you did it. I had to do all this on jack stands, however. 😢 I had the EXACT same problem as you where I couldn’t get one of the bolts off the front trailing arm. I ended up having to take a sawzall to mine, also. You got the tougher of the two sides off with a wrench, though, which I still don’t get how you did it. That stupid bolt was like $25! Your spring plates/bushings/torsion bars came out of the torque tube way easier than mine did, too. I watched this video with both satisfaction and cold sweat. It was not an enjoyable job to do but the results are awesome.

I have worked on Mercedes and Peugeots purchasing US Snap-On tools for best performance. The latest Dual 80 ratchets are top of the line with action, strength and low drag of the mechanical members of the ratchet. I have been a Snap-On customer for over 50 years enjoying the benefits. Other brand tools are rated high due to warranty; Snap-On has very little warranty as I take care of my tools and do not ask more than spec for the performance I demand from my tools. Why do you have that ratchet when Snap-On is available to you in Germany? It is a surprise to me that you are using that brand of tools in your work. I really like your explanations and style of videos. I have never driven a Porsche but I see the spec of what they manufacture as being high on the chart.

I have been a Porsche mechanic for 47 years and I have to say I really enjoy watching your educational videos. There are a couple of things I do differently but ends up with the same conclusion.. My only negative questions is related to anti-seize products. Firstly I never use an adjustable wrench, I always use my correct size spanners which are all made in "West Germany" I always use counter force with another spanner on the other part of the oil lines both on the engine, oil lines and cooler to make sure the twisting force is countered. My second question is you do not use any anti-seize products at all, I have always used copper grease on anything that is underneath of the car because of the salts and dirt which are readily used on our roads in Canada, as one day the part might have to come off again. I use to work for Roitmayer in Munich and have worked for a few different Porsche shops around the World. But even I can learn from you. Thanks and keep making videos as they are excellent. Great restoration. In the zinc plating CR3+ or the old CR6+?

How is the rubber bush quality compared to the originals? I ask because I've had many bad experiences with modern rubber replacements on my käfer, despite being made in Germany. Split ball joint covers and swing axle boots to name a few. Nothing is more frustrating than doing the same repair over and over again.

A great video, thank you for sharing. I have an 88, on your transmission mount, the metal concave discs are pointing toward the chassis. Mine are flipped the other way? Concave facing ground. Which is right? I can’t find any clear diagram.

the bearings and everything that needs to go in with a press I use liquid nitrogen for the steel parts for cleaning I use dry ice good luck

Watch out with that Brunox Brake Cleaner! The way you used it it will produce massively dangerous fumes. I use a respirator for my cold applications. Wouldn´t use it producing fumes. Be careful and stay safe. I had the same problem with a shipment from the 356 Goodie Store in California. 1 1/2 pounds (tool bag plus enamel grille badge) took from October to the day before yesterday! Wonder when my T-shirts from your shop will come?

I did my inner trailing arm bolts with no motor or trans in the way. I'd did not torque them. Motor and trans are in now. I'm gonna pay a pro to torque those bolts. I tried, can't do it.

What was the diameter of the new hub? I have an old one and want to know if it’s any good. Thanks

These cars don't really seem to terribly complicated. Precise yes, one must be fastidious to work on them. But if you follow the rules, stands to reason just about anyone could work on one.
