Great review Rich! I'm currently debating between 991.1 GT3 / GT3RS or a 458 and would greatly appreciate your insights and advice! The 458 has been a big dream car of mine and I got to test drove the 458 a while back and my impressions of it were that it's quite 'loose' and the steering is quite vague on center. Granted the one I test drove was lifted and perhaps the driving would be different if it was lowered. I just felt the age of the car/transmission compared to a Huracan 610-4 which was lightning quick. One of the things that bothered me was that the sound system was not good (yes I enjoy the highly naturally aspirated engine but sometimes I like to jam out!). So I'm wondering if the GT3/RS would be a better fit for me? I don't plan to track, maybe once a year, IF that. But I enjoy going carving in the back roads. I'm very big on handling, steering, feedback and exhaust. How would you compare the 2 cars? Which one has a better sitting position? Which one handles, steers, gives feedback and sounds better to you? Thank again!

Hi and thank you. Sounds like the 458 you drove had issues…458 steering, though not the most detailed is certainly fast and never loose. You’ll want to watch the video this Friday where I provide some comparison between the 458 and GT3. If you want mostly a road car, the GT3RS will be too track focussed and hard to live with as a daily.

I have never been in a 458 but I drove a 2014 991.1 GT3 on Thursday night quite a bit on the public road. I can tell you, this car is quick but not crazy fast. You really have to rev it to 9k to get the excitement out of it. I love Porsche and GT3's (in theory) but this was the first time I had been in a 911 let alone drove one. I gave it the beans many times and felt the handling a bit. I can tell you, this car is not that exciting on the public road, I hate to say it but it's true. The suspension was lowered on this car and yet still very usable for a daily driver on regular roads I was pretty surprised by this. Also the exhaust was not crazy sounding at all but rather mild. At idle or regular acceleration it sounds like any Porsche flat 6 even with PSE engaged. It's only when you are really jamming on it that it howls and comes to life and then it sings. By comparison, we had rented a Huracan and that experience was significantly more intense and engaging. The Porsche interior is comfortable and really quite usable. No one is looking at the car while driving around. It can be seen as a good or a bad thing. The Huracan demanded more respect behind the wheel and I don't think I redlined it once on public roads, it did feel significantly faster and was MUCH louder.

@@drewmorg. Did you drive in curvy roads? Cause that's what it's for. How would you compare the handling compare to the Huracan? Cause I did test out a 610-4 Huracan before and the burbles and pops were really exciting. Granted the power steering went out so I never really got to experience the handling.

@@TCGRS I live here in Orange County, CA. We mainly took the cars around Pacific Coast Highway by the beach and also some curvy canyon type roads, but don't think something like you see in Europe for miles and miles. Just enough to get a feel, plus these are rentals and I'm not comfortable pushing that hard in turns for rental haha. The Huracan I think was a 2016 580-2. I wasn't impressed with it at the time but now after comparing GT3 it really elevated the Lambo experience in my mind. The GT3 I'm just going to say it is not that exciting and kind of a let down for public road. If you're never going to track the car you are better off spending money somewhere else -- my honest opinion. We have a 2006 Boxster S Manual which was more fun to drive than the GT3 and is a convertible after all. The noises they make are somewhat comparable too, not far off. I think the main point here is this, the Lambo or Ferrari will be fun looking at it and listening to it at all times. Those cars are fun to drive just idling at a stoplight because of the feeling of the car itself. You don't have to push to enjoy it because the whole thing is an orchestra and experience. The GT3 is invisible to people unless they know the model or unless you are revving to 9k. The handling did feel very precise and I loved the seats, overall comfort, usability, and precision of the vehicle. But it's too much for public roads, you can only exploit that level of handling and aero on a track so therefore kind of useless for public road. Hope this helps!

Awesome car! I also enjoy the GT3 991.1 for more then a year 😊 Nice review! The F engines are also not good and have problems, i blew a hole in the engine on the Nurburgring with 9000 rpm and now i have the G6 engine 👌

Blew my GT3 991.1 engine on the way to the ring with 9k rpm after 40k km down:-) Now also with a new beating heart in the back....

PDK aka dual clutch was introduced in the 997.2 not the 991.1

Yes was initially featured in the 2008 year 997 but for first GT3 was the 991.1 and was fixed as the only gearbox option for the 991.1…subsequently that decision reversed in the 991.2.

The E1 Engine also had issues but were resolved. If the Car has the E1 engine installed in late 2017, or 2018, the engine is good to go.

The E1 had issues with cam followers not hardened and wearing through. These issues were not noted with the E0 series because they did not last long enough for Porsche to register the hardening issues. I detailed this in the video.

@@RichReviews_ I have the E1 engine in my car installed August 2018. Warranty expires October 15, 2024. Will have it checked before expiration.
