Great effort James, but maybe it would be easier to pul out the engine with the transmission? Especially when you are going to put it back on..... check it out with your Porsche dealer workshop. And also did you guys find out how the case broke? That is so strange!

Great to hear an American talk about 13mm bolts 👍😀 Good effort Steve. Thoughts and questions. Is the floor comfortable to kneel on? Would job have been much easier with 2 post lift?
@steveberguetski1784
@steveberguetski1784 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks HawkMillFarm! The floor isn't as bad to kneel on as you would think. A two post lift would definitely help with body position, but I am happy with the lift James has. It is working out really well.

Steve Berguetski Thanks for reply Steve. This is a really interesting project. Most of us perhaps treat our Porsches as a bit precious if they are newer and valuable. To have an older one to work on and not worry as much must be great.

Why a scissor lift over a two post like maxjax? Love your 996 project videos.....
@AutoAmateur
@AutoAmateur 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! I had thought about a 2-post lift, but I prefer how the scissor lift looks to be honest. It makes the garage maintain it's spacious feeling and I don't feel cramped, like I'm having to watch out for banging into things all the time. It also helps my wife in that she doesn't have to worry about getting in / out of her car that gets parked in the middle stall. Above all else though, functionally the scissor lift does everything I need it to. It goes high enough for the jobs I need to do, it's safe, it's easy to maintain. It was also cheaper than the 2-post lift.

Curious....Where are the broken pieces of the bell housing? Did they just fall out on the road when it failed?

@steveberguetski1784
@steveberguetski1784 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment, Chris! From some internet investigating that Patrick did, it seems that a worn transmission mount can cause excessive vibration causing the bell housing to crack over time. You won't notice anything until it completely cracks all the way around. Then it gets very loud and you immediately stop driving. There were no signs of impact anywhere either.

Once again another KZfaqr master tech! doing extra steps that don’t need to be done. So far your removed and tore up the slave cylinder that does not have to come off! All you have to do is take the line off! I’m sure I’ll find other things that don’t really need to be done! Come on guys

Does Steve have any idea how the trans. housing cracked that badly? Do you guys know if the IMS has been changed, and if it has not been changed, will you guys change that yourself?

As far as the IMS goes, this car has been upgraded to the LN Engineering IMS Solution. That was really great to see. We will get that on video today. Thanks for watching!

Looking good guys, are those H&R springs on stock shockers as they look a bit blue under the surface dirt? The suspension doesn’t look to bad? I’m guessing you’ll be debating an upgrade though eh? Also debating some side skirts on my 99 996, do they hide crud behind them? They didn’t look too bad when they were removed though, you putting them back on or leaving them off? 🤔

How did the bell housing become cracked?
@AutoAmateur
@AutoAmateur 7 күн бұрын
Long story short, one of the previous owners did the IMS solution and whichever shop did the work didn't put the transmission back onto the engine properly. The stress ultimately caused the bell housing to fracture.
