Nice job, man. Figuring out how it was engineered was admirable. Thanks so much for sharing.

Amazing and admirable how you take on the challenge of fixing the top of this Porsche. Especially because you are filming the relevant parts and figuring out how it has been designed. I totally feel your frustration and admire your determination.

My first semi modern Porsche .. I've had older 1960's and 70's ones before , I'm finding the same fragile plastics issues that modern Benz's also suffer from. Why is it that Japanese and American plastics last forever , and German stuff becomes like a potato chip after 10 years ? that's the real frustration. Beautiful mechanicals with crap plastic. I omitted a few clips of cursing until I found those 2 little matchmarks ..manuals don't mention them..lol

@@fupabox have you by any chance decided or consider writing down or typing a step-by-step how to adjust where the adjustments can be made and where they're located with pictures kind of like a tutorial? Man if you go through all the work and it comes out great I'm sure most people like me would be willing to pay five $10 for it per copy anyway to save us a nightmare, LOL. I am watching your video again because now I have the time to address it. The clamshell when the top is completely closed the right side passenger side the rear facing the trunk sticks up and it doesn't lay flush like it doesn't a driver side when the top is completely up or down any suggestions?

@@joejoe188 It sounds like the 2 sides aren't in synch . Remove the 4 bolts on the hard clamshell/hard tonneau cover and remove it ...it will make it much easier to adjust .unhook the cable on that side from the drive motor (the one that won't sit flat ) and turn the inner cable by hand until the clamshell hinges align on both sides then hook the cable back to the motor . It may take some fiddling back and forth to get it dead on

Awesome! Great job on working out the Boxster roof mech Fupabox. Like you say, no info on this anywhere, so thanks for the upload. Probably saved me an expensive trip to a Porsche garage!! Nice one. Stay Safe.

Thank you I think I finally can fix my clam shell. I had no idea that there was a adjustment to line up the push rods.

You saved the day - one side of gearbox was 180 degrees off - the markers you describe were better than the bently book they only measure distance for a full closed top at 195 where the markers on the gearbox were the ticket 😃 thanks again !

You make me miss my 986. I've got a 987 and it's just different enough to make me wonder. I've been struggling with my top and I think your method of loosening that adjustment arm is one trick I like. But I suspect I'm missing something else. The gear boxes are designed a bit different so it's not clear how to align them. The manual for the 987 shows a picture of the 986 style gearbox with the markings you have. Mine doesn't have that. I guess I'll just have to fiddle with it some more.

was it noisy before you did the job? I don't understand where the noise I hear with the top open or closed comes from thanks

Thanks, been searching every where. Any advice would be welcome, replacing the top and converting back to automatic this winter. Converted to manual during the summer. Could put top down and not back up. Intermittent prob

Check a few things ... the ebrake switch (does the dash light come on with the ebarake engaged ?) if not the top wont raise or lower . Check fuses for corrosion . Check microswitch on top of windshield frame header latch that sends signal to the computer to allow roof to open and close. Check your window auto drop on opening and closing the door with roof up . To be sure , reset the up and down limits for the windows. The car needs to know where full up and down positions are to know when the window is up or down. To reset , start car and press one window switch at a time. Raise window and continue holding button another 10 seconds once all the way up .. same for down..hold additional 10 seconds once down all the way . Do both windows .The roof is a pretty simple analog system . It relies on switches to tell each action to start or end . on or off..yes or no in sequence . If any of them isn't co-operating then the next action won't take place . Is parking brake on ..yes..is roof unlatched at top ...yes...button pressed..yes..windows not up...yes..roof lowers.. any no in that sequence and the roof won't move . All of this is assuming the rear motor isn't slipping , but the roof will go down so I'm doubting that is the problem. My bet is the windshield header switch.

Thank you for sharing. Today I had a malfunction on my roof. The plastic push rod end broke on the right side. I disconnected everything from the two boomerang levers and when I push the up/down button only the right boomerang moves. Should both of them be moving? Is the left side boomerang lever supposed to move freely because it is not moving at all. It seems frozen.
@fupabox4 жыл бұрын
they should both move at the same time . the drive cable for the side that isn't moving is likely broken or detached from the central drive motor . or is binding on that side under the big round drive sprocket
@shaneclanton18594 жыл бұрын
fupabox thank you. Yes the cable was shredded on the inside.

You are a better man than I lol I have a 98 Boxster also. Where do the rods connect underneath the top? Cannot find the ball or whatever is there, where r u located? Thnx

Thankyou for the video,, May i ask was the roof in the service position or closed, for the alignment on the transmission. I was assuming the lines on the transmission where lined up and everything put back together with roof closed. Thank you.
@fupabox2 жыл бұрын
Damn ..If I recall correctly it was in closed position
@redauwg9112 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the reply. I had mine in the service position, And the marks are a little past the line. So yes yours lining up with the roof closed makes sense, Once again thank you for the excellent video and reply.

I replaced my soft top, and now it is short by half an inch from the latch. Should I do the same thing that you did? Any advice from you, thank you in advance.
@fupabox4 жыл бұрын
when you replace the top it will be naturally tighter, takes a while to stretch . you may need to use some extra force to pull it closed the first few times

Great video, thank you! How did you get the back push rods attached to the boomerang (holes closet to trunk)? I'm talking about these push rods (www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/1051/POR_1051_BDYCON_pg2.htm). For context, I noticed my clamshell wasn't closing all the way on the passenger side when I put the top down. I started digging around and noticed that the passenger side push rod was completely detached. I think that's the problem.
@fupabox3 жыл бұрын
They just snap onto the chrome ball swivel . The black plastic ends on the push rod are replaceable and can be too loose to stay snapped on
@williamlowery72823 жыл бұрын
Thanks you! I was just able to reattach it but I’m still having the issue with the clamshell not closing all the way... Do you know if it’s necessary to grease all the moving parts on the convertible top?
@pauljordan19562 жыл бұрын
@@williamlowery7282 I have got the exact same problem with my 987. Did you find a solution?
@williamlowery8792 жыл бұрын
@@pauljordan1956 I reattached the pushrod on the passenger side. It does snap on but I found that I had to take a small mallet to it to make sure it clicked on completely. Then I greased up the tracks. After using the top for about a week I noticed it sat back down properly on the passenger side.
@pissoff2344 жыл бұрын
What about the other end of the cables And your camera is never in the right spot
@fupabox4 жыл бұрын
yeah I agree , the filming was poor at best . The side arm ends of the drive cables were never detached ..only from the motor . Pull the clip on the cable at the motor and pull straight out .
