Here's part 2 where we get down to the business of constructing and install the new radiator we made way for in the last video. This seems like a bigger task than it is. If you simply take your time and focus on the steps, it's a very doable DIY.
Be memorable, be bold, be well. D Wray

I did not see you mention it, but I would add a note in the video about having the heater running on full hot to insure that part of the system does not trap any air. I think idling in the garage, it won't get hot enough for the fans to run. Thanks for the video.

Hi mate great informative video. Been thinking about installing a 3rd radiator on my Caymen but thought it was going to be a big job, but thanks to your video I see its a simple enough install. Must get the cheque book out again lol. Mick 👍🍻

This one is relatively inexpensive and quite simple - for a Porsche and an original part anyways. Here I think they run $400 or so. Likely more critical in a climate like mine here in Arizona, but great peace of mind either way.

@@DWraysGarage what was the purpose of making the four holes in the bottom of the bumper? Their utility or lack thereof seemed to have been omitted at the end.
@DWraysGarage
@DWraysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Now I have air passing through the new radiator, that air needs to get out somewhere - these holes are what serve this purpose.

Great video ! Thanks. I’m doing that on my Cayman next week. What is the size of the 2 bolts that goes into the body on the top, and the size of the 2 nuts on the bottom? Is the center one you didn’t have a nut or a bolt? What size !? For the coolant filling I use a vacuum pump device that allows the coolant to be sucked in, without creating pockets of air around the heads which could cause serious damage. Don’t forget to LOCK the headlights. Thieves will just try to lift them up, if they come out, trey are GONE .. either for resell or for marijuana growers lights.

About to tackle this job on my 987.1. Looks like your bleeding method was successful, although there is conflicting info on the right way to do it. Some say you need absolutely have to vacuum bleed, others say vacuum bleed wont work unless coolant is mostly drained. Some use the bleeder valve etc.. Any light you can shine on this?
@DWraysGarage
@DWraysGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Speaking only from experience, the vacuum is definitely the best way to refill and avoid/mitigate air pockets. As far as extraction, I had no issues releasing the pipes and draining a good amount of fluid. If I would have had the vacuum tool from the get-go I might we'll have tried to extract that way but gravity seemed to work just fine. Best of luck however you proceed.

What are the benefits of the 3rd radiator? I know the cayman gts has one and gt4 , do they really get hot enough to have to have the extra one ? Good video The cars looking great , I bet it flys with all your mods ..
@DWraysGarage
@DWraysGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I want to track the car and know that extra cooling capabilities will help the engine from bogging so quickly and generally keep things cooler. Living in AZ it gets very hot in summer and some track days occur on days above 100° even. As such, I want to keep the car as close to its ideal operating temps as possible - even under high stress driving. It's also a relatively cheap (@$400) insurance policy. It is a ton of fun to drive. It performs a hair better than the 981 GT4 I recently test drove. Thanks for watching.

D Wray's Garage You really have gone to town on this 987 spyder it must be a epic to drive , I have the 987.2 3.4s pdk , it’s great watching your mods gives me inspiration to modify mine , I have been to Arizona 20 years ago on a boys road trip and yes it is a lot hotter than UK , I think my next step is 200 cell headers and the ipd plenum and 82mm throttle then coil overs , I doubt I will race the car but will be nice to do the odd track day so the 3rd radiator upgrade could be a future modification, Thank you for your reply I bet the cars fantastic.. Keep up the good work

My 987.2 3.4 pdk boxster already has the centre radiator? It’s just the standard S
@DWraysGarage
@DWraysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
It was standard on PDKs to add cooling for the transmission. Because mine is manual, it wasn't there from factory. I am not sure when this began but certainly on 987.2s.

So you didnt add the mesh behind the bumper to stop the leaves as mentioned in Part 1
@DWraysGarage
@DWraysGarage 2 жыл бұрын
I didn't. There wasn't a clean solution to work around the light configuration of the Spyder. Most solutions are geared to the traditional bumper models - ie Zunnsport. Almost went custom but the mood never took me to execute. I just blow out my rads at every wash.

how did you reinstall the metal clip near the headlight?
@DWraysGarage
@DWraysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
I see where I put that out in high speed. I also don't have a great recollection. This tells me that, once the panels aligned correctly I simply slipped them into the channel I pulled them from. I'm thinking you either haven't started yet and/or have hit a snag?
@Chitown388
@Chitown388 3 жыл бұрын
@@DWraysGarage Thanks for the quick response. I haven't started yet. I saw that it was quite a bit of effort to pull out that clip, I hesitate to pull out the bumper without being sure to be able to put it back. Good to know that you didn't have a recollection of putting it back; it just means that it wasn't a big enough ordeal for you to remember it.

@@Chitown388 Give slight upward support to the bumper cover when removing and inserting the clips. That makes it slide MUCH more easily. Also, when removing, use the string method one of the other posters suggested, as I scratched my paint using a pick.
