The test is a HUGE disservice to Jaguar & Porsche. Jaguar would've won On-road Comfort test, BUT was eliminated too early. Porsche would've won Race Track test, BUT was eliminated too early. (The "T" stands for Track; of course it would lose the comfort test!) IMO, this video competition has zero validity.

These "elimination" tests are terrible. It's just to put the tests in the order you want to get the chosen result. Only way you can't get a specific car to win is that it's worst in all categories. Not to mention the "one off" chance, just look at the mediocre launch of the Cayman. Do it properly like use best out of three runs with each car.

Tiff would have had that Z4 sideways the whole lap then slammed the TT for understeer. I miss Tiff

If you bring in BMW M40 and Audi TTRS, why do you compare them against the normal 718 Cayman? You should have compared them against 718 Cayman S or GTS. This is a very invalid test👎

I never liked these "elimination" tests. There should be a points system for each test and whichever car gets the most total points at the end should be the winner.

If they tested the BMW M40i American version 382 HP it probably would have won the track test as well. Amazing car.

Would it not be best to subject all vehicles to the same tests and the give the best overall combined score? The Jag, while not fast in a straight line could have fared better on a road test. Same for the Porsche, this could maybe have done better on a track.

the tt rs was a serious contender in the group, so the final outcome is well deserved, but it's laughable how they chose the track focused cayman t and eliminate it on a road comfy test!

Very strange way of testing the automobiles via elimination. Wouldn’t it make more sense to give them a score based on each category? Regardless reality is one will buy each one of those vehicles on their look, drivers feel, comfort, performance and features and price. Is it your main car, second car, sunday afternoon car? So many factors are at play. For the sunday afternoon car, i would take the beemer, for fun i would have the cayman and if it was my everyday driver i would take the TT. Just my opinion!

Not surprised the TT RS is the best all rounder, because it is. The Cayman is a true drivers car though and anyone can appreciate that.

They got it all wrong what you want is that Porsche with the flat 6! second to that Z4 M40i. The looks of the Audi just puts me off it no matter how good or not it might be.

I love the Cayman. Although they should have gotten the Cayman GTS to compete with this group. I love the proper manual transmission of the Porsche. Unfortunatly none of the others have manuals. Thanks.

I had the original TT 225 HP. I was driving during the winter with 4 winter tires on the car. I pulled up beside a police car. The light turned green I took off quite quickly and was pulled over by the cop. He wanted to know why I was driving so fast. I told him I wasn't speeding. He gave me my licence back then followed me 5 or 6 km to the highway and let me go. That was a great car with an incredible interior. I miss that car.

Interesting Review - Loved talking about the BMW 6 cylinder engine - However the TTRS 5 cylinder is a mighty beast :)

As a TT RS owner I'm not surprised at the out come. Even though my steering wheel is on the wrong side. Freeing up the induction and exhaust really wakes it up for just being bolt ons. I found that backing up the entry to a corner and aggressive throttle as it rotates the center of the appex is the way to track the car. Understear is there but it's easier to point the car on exit without fighting the wheel. Great show, great reviews. Wishing you all the best from Texas.

Would be really interesting seeing these versus something comparable in motorcycle way, Middleweight NAKED bikes for example, you would definitely get some new viewers from the fast growing motorcycle community. BMW F 900 R / Ducati 821 Monster / Yamaha MT09 / Kawasaki Z900 / KTM890 DUKE / Triumph Street Triple / MV Agusta Brutale / Ducati Streetfighter V4 S etc... Cheers!

People of Fifth Gear, do you test cars to have some fun with cars yourselves or to inform the viewers? The reason I ask this question is because this test is imho a disappointing approach to what is `the best' sports car of this foursome. We don't buy cars like these to race them on a circuit, we want them to be entertaining on the road. The car with the highest top speed and/or the fastest acceleration is not necessarily the most entertaining to drive. Chances are that the Jaguar turns out to be te most desireble car of this quartet and you'll immediately ignore it. Unfortunately.

Two car guys give a barbershop review of three purpose built cars. I have a 718CS and Audi RS5 V8. Getting out of the RS5 and jumping in the Cayman makes you feel like you just jumped on a chainsaw running at full throttle but, you are out to chop some trees no spread butter on your morning crumpet, I don't see any problem. Please learn how to use tolls, don't spread butter with a chainsaw. Still, I do question where your bread is getting buttered. You are both much better than all that.

So, the best of the 4 is TT. But VW already announced the entire TT line is following the destiny of dinosaurs and walk into sunset after 2020 fiscal year. Food for thought. Maybe the runner up Z4 is the better champ in terms of value/performance than TT.

Highly competitive sector? It’s probably the least competitive of any sector. 4 options, when other sectors often have a dozen. And then eliminating the Porsche before the track test makes no sense at all. Also you’re comparing the m40i which is the highest trim version against the F Type and Boxster base options which isn’t really fair. The Z4 is also a convertible which makes it not really a part of this sector, the Supra would have been a better choice. I know it’s loosely based on price and the fact that the cars are German, but those really aren’t the best factors to use.

Talk about a crap test... Starts with testing straight line speed to already eliminate one. These are sports cars, not muscle cars. You buy these for driving dynamics, not drag racing....

Comparing four cars with completely different engines, some with 4 cylinders and some with 6, power range from 300 PH to 400 PH is useless. Compare apples to apples, oranges to oranges, not apples to kiwi.

So you don't test all the cars on all parameters and kick them out as the order of the test. I wonder who will win if the tests order were changed

Really poor test - dump the road focused car in a drag test - then dump the track focused car in a road test - utterly pointless!!! ( and one driver should do all cars in the specific test to eliminate driver bias).
