Long time owner of 2004 Porsche GT3, great car. Just wish they offered the 2004 GT3 RS to USA back then.

That was such an awesome video. I'm 31 and just got my first Porsche a 1 owner 1999 996. The 996 GT3 is my dream car. It just checks off all the boxes; restrained aggression, motorsport pedigree, a raw driving experience, and for me was the coolest cars around during my most impressionable age. I joined PCA a few months ago and absolutely love the Porsche community. I would LOVE to see the 996 Cup video. Thank you!

By the time the 996 GT3 reaches 73 RS levels, they’ll long be past the 25yr import restriction, so it will be the 996 GT3 RS that is the true successor. As a 6GT3 owner, I wouldn’t mind being wrong, but I’ll just be racking the miles on mine.

I’ve owned both a 996 Carrera and a 996 GT3. The base Carrera is a perfect daily driver. The GT3 wore me out as a street car. I now track a 996 GT3 Cup which is an absolute beast. It is very similar to the GT3 street car just that much faster due mostly to lighter weight.

Very enjoyable and interesting commentary on the 996GT3. As the first and only owner of a 2004 Clubsport (I live in the Uk) I agree that it is a great car. I can’t see it ever approaching the status of 73RS or anything near it. But that’s good, I have no concerns about driving it to Le Mans or tracking it at Spa or the Nurburgring. To me, this car is defined by the engine. When you drive it, the engine goads you into driving harder and faster. My wife was driving it on an autobahn in Germany and had dozed off in the fire proofed Recaros. I woke up and she was cruising at 130 mph! The engine doesn’t have the torque of the 997.2 GT3 but i find it a more engaging drive. Largely because the gearbox is lighter, the pedal position is better and the car feels more agile. But the interior build quality does let the car down, particularly compared to my leathered and alcantaraed 997 GT3. Porsche Motorsport brake disks / rotors are particularly poor given the car’s intended use but there are great aftermarket products available. I’ve suffered water leaks as a result corrosion to the aluminium piping that goes round the back of engine. But otherwise it has just been maintenance and replacement / rebuild of consumable items. Values are still pretty low in the UK £65+k but it was never bought as an investment. Thanks for all the effort and time you invested to produce this video.

In the market for a 996 Turbo. What is one of the better tools to get to check for overevs history?

Dang wish I queued up for this before it aired. Long term owner with almost 75k on the clock. Would have liked to hear a little more about on a few things. I always like to knock on the roof of mine with car friends. Sounds like a tin can. Doors are so lightweight for a factory car. Never really tied the 73 lightweight back to the 996GT3 in this story.

996 GT3s are already $250,000AUD+ ($180,000USD+). I have a 996 Turbo and have had offers of $160,000AUD. Prices here are ludicrous.

73 RS is a pinnacle car for certain. But it was not “the road car” after the 930 was presented to the world in 1974 and then readily available to the public as a 77 model. The 930 remains the pinnacle 911 Porsche road car.

A few years ago I wanted rid of my old school 930. I test drove a 996 GT3, sorry what a disappointment. Kept the 930, later sold it to fund a build of a proper longhood system hot rod build.
