I think it's amazing how so many players, whether they grew up with these sounds and instruments and melodies or not, are struck by it. I'm from Europe so I don't have that connection of being very familiar with it, but that didn't even matter - I just kind of stopped and stared because of how tingling and exciting and alive the music made the Port feel. Music is a language everyone speaks, and this song made that so clear. It makes me happy to see a big budget developer put this kind of effort and resources into creating something that shows off so many of the most beautiful things from all over the world, and I feel lucky to be able to get to share the appreciation and admiration with everyone.

the forest side of Sumeru kinda reminds me to eastern India area with their lush rain forest and rivers. Then the desert area would be the middle east + Egypt I guess? Which looks to be a bit larger than the forest area (considering that my full 100% exploration on the forest only covers about 45% of total Sumeru exploration)

@@HenSt-gz7qj you are right, I believe that the eremites are Inspired partly by the ancient Egyptians but mainly by the nabateans whom were an ancient Arab people who traveled north and founded a kingdom in the desert, when their kingdom fell, they returned to nomadic lifestyle, the mercenary element might be from some Arab tribes like the Banu hilal whom were mercenaries in the desert and migrated to North Africa and Were known for several battles fought there

Honestly, it's shocking it took so long for a major game company to be willing to be more faithful to the countries they take inspiration from when it comes to music. So many companies with the resources to make fantastic music that takes from various cultures and styles just get too scared and stick to the basic safe options, and it gets simply *boring*. Port Ormos was not the first place I noticed fantastic music, but it definitely carved a way into my favorites by the end of the piece.

I've not played Genshin Impact, but this music is gorgeous to listen to. Those lingering twangs are like sea salted butterscotch with vanilla ice cream. They have that savoury aspect while the background sweetness lifts up the depth to give a soft lilt which makes it so pleasant without it being overly rich. The drums (I don't know the name of the instruments used, forgive my ignorance!) prevent that sweetness from making it too sickly and a bit too immature. This is music I could easily listen to a lot, which is unusual for me.

For me the night theme feels like the port is slowly breathing while resting and the fact that the melody remains the same between day and night makes me imagine a scenario where yes, everyone is sleeping, but at the same time no one is really really sleeping, the port is a center of commerce and opportunities as you said, so every night there's already the focus on the next day of work. But it's for sure that there are also movements and activities at night

I remember when I first got to port ormos I just was dumbfounded and stood there while the whole song played, before going “holy crap” really loud. With the night theme sounding like there's something more going on, maybe it's because the devs said that there's some shadier business that goes on in Port Ormos since it's so far from the capitol that the nation's leaders have slightly less power and authority there. So if you want to buy, say, something that the leaders have outlawed... Port Ormos is the place to be.

Watching the Sumeru OST behind the scenes video, in several of the recording studio shots, the one sitting in the producer's seat directing the Indian instrumentalists isn't Yupeng or someone from Hoyo, but rather the sitarist! That's probably why they could bring out the best of the Indian instruments... they left it to the one who knows them best to direct the performance. Willing to bet the riffs, vibratos, small little sound refinements, that make it sound so REAL all came from the instrumentalists making recommendations that were being judged and trusted by someone who understood the music.

The drums and tempo, the beat everything is just telling you it is a bustling environment, absolutely filled to the brim with life and personality. I can't really describe the music but its so lively that it just makes you want to dance, the drop goes SO HARD and the variety of instruments used and the techniques that are playing really shows the exoticism of the different regions and different music themes all being played in one area and piece to showcase the different traders who sail to port ormos from various regions. God I love it so much, can't wait for HOYO-MIX to release the sumeru soundtracks on all platforms. The HOYO-MIX team really outdid themselves, as many times as they release ABSOLUTE BANGERS.

Got a little emotional hearing the OST for the first time in Port Ormos as an Indian, the way the classical music was represented made me feel more connected to my culture, and I struggle with that sometimes thanks to growing up largely abroad. I live in India again now but still have that feeling I don’t belong here sometimes, but the way I connected with this music made me feel just a little more like I do. :)

Port Ormos is such a banger of a track. It has this nostalgic feel of this desert port we all wish we could visit and experience. It tells an entire story of a beautiful place. And the night theme goes even further imo and grands this nostalgic vision of an old man overseeing the port and its people in this view of happiness and pride to an extend, saying "Another successful day in my beloved Port Ormos". From the music alone I just feel joy and can picture the place which only happens so often. Clear 10/10.

Port Ormos is a bustling Port, day and night, but it has just a bit of an edge to it, which I think the music encapsulates well. It's a place without too much regulation, so there's some unseen danger, but also a lot of freedom. It's a place people go when they want something, and sometimes the price is getting their hands a little dirty.

I'm from Morroco, which might as well be a middle eastern country. So when I went to Port Ormos for the first time. I just stopped to hear the music, felt so nostalgic even though I've never heard it.

Port Ormos Day theme had no right to be that catchy, fun and intricate. The first time I heard it I was in the middle of a voiced quest, and as I realized the epicness I was hearing I was just there, bobbing my head to the rhythm very enthusiastically lol. I have to say that it's even hard for me sometimes to pay attention to dialogue if that's playing, because it's that good. Folk/traditional instrumentation like that from pretty much anywhere in the world is like a huge dopamine shot straight in my brain, I just love it so much. I think you will love Sumeru when you get there!

_Port Ormos_ for some reason envoke memories of my time when I was in Turkey, Stambul in a small local Turkish market. It was lively, music was playing, people were chatting left and right, people exchange goods, people bargained for lower prices etc. Those are the emotions that evoke in myself. This track is very magical! I associate as you said _'An opportunity'_ . A very good analogy. I also see it as a form of 'freedom' - freedom of opportunity. I once used to travel a lot in my younger days to find a purpose in my life, and get experience. This track reminded me of that. 🙏 One of the best tracks of Sumeru. The night edition is a good way to reflect on what has happened during the lively day while the day time it's the time to live and act. I can't bot praise this track. My Archon quest went from 5h to 7h just because I got distracted by the music all the time. ✨I really hope to see you in Port Ormos soon Marco! It's a well-worth experience! ✨

To me the night theme wasn't very nefarious, so to speak. The way the pitch sways at the very beginning paints a picture of where I'm on a boat floating in the port at night. Everything is swaying slightly, the water, the boat, me on the boat, and the reflection of the moon. It's introspective and almost a little sad, before the Sitar comes in and shows us that yes, this is still a lively port, a grand location, even at night when all living beings should be resting.

As for the night theme, I felt like there was still this notion of "opportunity", but it's just that it's not for you. In this city there's opportunity for everyone, including people doing maybe not so legal things, and night is their time. After all, when there's a port, there's no way it's reputation is always stellar... Also it sounds like the calmness and loneliness of the ocean at night, like waves quietly knocking on the pier and bottoms of boats

@@MarcoMeatball there are a few hot keys that make a quick jump back a few seconds really easy. J jumps back a few seconds, K pauses, and L jumps forward a few seconds. So just a quick hit of J K would unpause a few seconds before you paused it.

Sumeru music in general feels like a step above the rest. With the Sitar, Tabla, Flutes and many other regional instruments make it sound so unique. As a south east asian, this really makes me proud of our culture. Hoyoverse did an incredible job.

I'm really glad you listened to the Port Ormos music - honestly, out of all of Sumeru music, I love this soundtrack the most, and I was really excited to see your take on it. Especially the nighttime theme - the beginning of it, when it's played by singular notes, reminds me a lot of waves softly lapping against the wooden harbour and the ships, the gentle creaking of the ships as they move with the waves, and the occasional taps of those ships (obviously protected) against both the harbour and other ships. I really recommend to anyone who loves the Port Ormos music that hasn't had the opportunity to listen to that peacefulness, to find any nighttime harbour sound recording and just... listen. It's one of my favorite sounds to exist.

This song, the day version, is one that REALLY kicks my SYNESTHESIA into HIGH-GEAR as I'm listening to it, cuz not only is the song COLORFUL, like a RAINBOW, A freaking KALEIDOSCOPE of colors, but it's also SPICY! I can LITERALLY TASTE it. The spiciness in the air (like spice markets mixed with the savory scent of street food stalls and the rich scents from cafes drifting about in the wind as it flirts through the port) and the flavor of the sea (not just the salt of the sea water, but an undertone of just cool sweet water(sensation of water, mebbe?)), the fluttering of colors like bird feathers and dancing glimmering fabrics (with beautiful metallic/gemstone sparkling accents here and there), and the flickering and bouncing of the percussion and flutes and sitar(was it?), flitting here and there, flirting as it goes along. LIke, the music is legit FLIRTING you. It's coy, playful, slightly mischievous yet still friendly, like a cat, teasing you to come and dance with it as it weaves in and out of the crowd with grace, finesse and lithe steps. But it's interesting, the personality of the music, something about it makes me feel like, I should still remain a liiiiiiiittle on guard? Like, not fully trust it with my wallet and social security number. Like, not anything MALICIOUS or anything, but like, teasing prankster flirting faerie. Because, like, you may have an absolute BLAST hanging out with it and have the time of your life, but you also may end up being robbed blind and left wondering what the crap just happened. That's what I was talking about with it being coy and mischievous. Like, as long as you can flirt right along with it, keep up with the dance and tempo and rhythm and not trip up or get swept away out of your control to the music's tempo, but keep in time with it, and maybe even surprise/impress it with a friendly flirty counter-step of your own here and there, then you might just make one of the best friends and allies you could ever have.
