ahah only just read the blog post: yes Hugh can squat anywhere. I worked it out though! Asian people in general have longer torsos and shorter legs in comparison to other ethnicities. So when they squat, their feet are placed firmly and flatly on the ground, so it's comfortable. When I squat I'm up on my toes so I can't balance and it hurts my legs. Although Hugh is slightly taller than me, my legs are actually longer, and I just can't squat flat footed. I know some people can train themselves to do the Asian squat, but I can't. Like you I would also guess this is for farmers. I see smaller versions of this used by women in the fields.
