If you're wondering what happened to Martina's arm, it's because of her EDS. Some days she can't get it back in socket, so she needs to use the sling. She's better now! That day was just a bad day, but we still wanted to film because filming makes us happy :D

As someone with a similar chronic disease and pain I have to say that MARTINA when I have a day like you're having I curl up in a ball and cry (mind you I am 30 years older than you) but I admire your strength and spirit. Gentle hugs xxxx

So many umbrellas! When it rains over here, its weird to see that, we usually just walk out into the rain or run when it's really pouring, which doesn't make sense since you get more wet when you run.

It is amazing that you both can stay so positive and happy despite what Martina is going through. Granted that you may not be as cheery off camera when Martina is in pain but the fact that you both can still emit such positivity on camera shows your determination and strong will to not let a condition control your life. You both are truly amazing people, one for smiling while in pain and the other for being her biggest supporter.

My girlfriend looks at me like I'm a crazy foreigner if I use an umbrella when it rains. We live near Portland Oregon, locals like to think they are immune to the weather. She likes to say that true Northwesterners don't use umbrellas, I just quote Big Trouble in Little China "Yeah, and a wise man has enough sense to get in out of the rain!". I'm also 6th generation of my family to grow up here, so I think I get more say in what "natives" do than her.

fartzinwind My brother in law doesn't use umbrellas, either. And we asked him about it, but he never had a good answer. He just gave some reason about "if it was meant to be it was meant to be" or something that I couldn't really understand. JUST USE A DAMN UMBRELLA AND DON'T BE WET!

emmereffing So because of that reply I had to go out and Google the history of the Umbrella. Turns out there is evidence of them being used, one type or another, dating back to ancient Roam and China. Too far back to really tell who was first. What is known though is that the Chinese were the first to Water Proof them. That is my useless contribution of knowledge for the day.

Unrelated, but funny. Toilet paper couldn't come with a guarantee that it was splinter free until almost the mid 1900's. So if you think about it, there plenty of people today who could regale you with tales of much different times.. in the bathroom.

Yukine Sekki It's really not predictable. Some days it's out, some days it's in. Some days her knees fail, some days they're alright. Today, for example, her knees and shoulders were alright, but her hips weren't, and walking was more challenging. There really aren't any patterns we know that we can follow and prepare for. Though, we did notice that warmer weather is less painful than cold weather!

Eat Your Kimchi Is she using a heating pad? I know that it's not the same thing but when im hurting from my endometeriosis, I use a heating pad for the pain. Maybe it will help with the pain atleast!

"Presione el botón para abrir". It means that you need to push up that bottom to open the umbrella. I laugh so hard with that. OMG you guys don't have an idea... Nice idea!!! The best umbrella ever ^^

What a cute and practicle idea :) I hope u feel better Martina I know it stinks when joints dislocate or hurt I have issues with knee joints they hurt or get stiff as well as my hips hurting the right one will pop out of place hurts like the dickins to do ANYTHING but lay down but walking around while although very painful does help it to go back in and I have low back issues big time so know what you go through sending lots of good thoughts love and prayers to you. And Simon you ROCK the way that you take care of her when she needs it and you look out for her :) feel better soon Martina :)

One of our tenants here in the States had this huge couples umbrella - single shaft, really heavy duty framework (wasn't heavy though) and it spanned about 5 feet wide. They said the thing was so tough that even heavy winds couldn't pull it up and break it ... but they couldn't hold onto it and did have to chase it down.
