The o-ring pulled off on the tank end of the hose at the end there. It likely got stuck to the inside wall of the tank fitting due to the cold. Btw those are called "POL" fittings, and there are some that exist without o-rings, just a metal-to-metal seal, which can be more durable, as long as the tank fitting is in good condition.

Throw a few layers of propane safe plumbing tape on an o-ring-less pol fitting and it should make up for any slop

When we had the boat here, we bought a $90 Masterbuilt grill for the dock. 5 seasons it lasted there, and another 4 on my deck after that. We used that grill 4 to 5 times per weekend during the summer (at least 4 tanks of propane a season), and well over 200 times when it was back at my house. Best $90 we ever spent! It got to the point where the replacement parts outpriced the grill. :(

Sold the things for years. the regulators are prone to fail, sometimes you can get them going with a few taps, other times they just stop working completely, good to keep a spare if you're on the water

Just a friendly bit of info on LP gas bottles and hoses. When opening the valve just crack it a little first, or you can have the valve lock off. And those valves are BACK seasted, and you neeed to open the vale fully or the gas will leak around the valve stem. Also the hoses are pinpricked and also seep LP gas vapor, and that is so that the hose will not blister, because LP gas passes through the lining and would blister the outer casing. I telling you all tyhis, is because if you leave the bottles in a closed space, and leave the bottle turned on. LP gas is a heavier that air gas and will seek the lowest part in any area. A spark from a starter, light switch, or any other source can set it off.

I tried about 4 different "Affordable" Grill options for the boat, I will say this - Stainless means nothing, the cheap grills use a shit grade of Stainless, and they rust like crazy! Also, a "portable Grill" (for tail gating & Camping) wont stay lit like one made for a BOAT because of the venting, if theres even the slightest breeze (as yours did on video) it will blow out over and over again - I finally broke down and bought a MAGNA Stainless BOAT grill from West Marine about 10 years ago (seems to be the same size as the one you showed in the video, it was around $350 ten years ago), but it is still shiny like new, never rusted, and only blew out ONE time , but it was blowing a Gale, We get some serious Weather here in Tampa, FL... Thats My 2 cents anyways - That one looks nice, I hope it has decent grade of Stainless - Let us know how long it lasts!

I have that exact grill! The grate did end up rusting, probably not a great alloy. The other issue was the nut the regulator screws in to on the mount bracket only has 3 small tack welds holding it. Its very easy to break it off. A quick tig job but annoying when you're hungry.

looks like a nice unit. probably have to try it in different places to find one screened from the wind. Possibly even some sort of baffle to attach to the end of your "grilling board" just to help prevent a stray gust from blowing it out again. Think I'd pick up one or two of those small tanks just to have around so you can take it ashore for a beach party on some tropical atoll beach where your researcher wants to study! get the filler adapter you mentioned and you'd save hauling the whole large tank out with you!

I've have had one of those gas grills for years, decent quality build but don't ever rely on the sparker to work for long. I think the piezoelectric ignitor worked for about a month and a half after I bought the thing, but lighting at the old-fashioned way, its worked for years with no issue.

I highly recommend Char-Broil “The Big Easy Grill Tru-Infrared Smoker, Roaster & Grill.” It does EVERYTHING: Grills, Smokes, Roasts like a tandoori oven! We've grilled everything that walks or crawls on the grill. We've hung and "oven roasted" everything from ribs to goose in the internal chamber. Also, no flame! Ever. Completely infra-red and the burners are nowhere near the dripping fat. Only 50 LBS: so it can be picked up and moved anywhere. As for marine environments? I can't say. But in North Texas it sat on our patio and we used it almost daily for about 9 years. It finally began to get a little rickety (not good for a gas appliance), so we bought a new one. None of the "gas parts" rusted out.

If you have a spare piece of AR500 plate laying around it'll make a great non-stick griddle. Just cut to fit, sand smooth 300-400 grit, season in grill - on high with lard(3x for 2 hours). Use real lard, not crisco or vegetable oils. Spread lard on both sides, it'll act as a protective coating on the flame side. Believe it or not the bottom side of my AR500 griddle is not rusty. Eggs just slide right off using butter. Bacon tends to stick a bit so clean grill with wet paper towel while griddle is still hot. I use a stainless spatula for cooking and cleaning with wet paper towel.

Great grills. Have the better Homes and garden version. Like others have said the SS used is probably a 400 series so not great with corrosion. Took mine to the ocean for a week vacation and it rusted up the heat shield. The grate it non magnetic so I’m guessing it’s 300 series,it’s holding up better than the rest or the grill. Mine lives in the back of my truck so I can have a hot meal any time I want.

I tried the whole refilling small propane bottles from a big one thing. It works but you can only get them about half full. It wasn't really worth it for me. Also, I have a "marine grade" propane grill on my boat. It's all stainless but the burners still only last a year or so. Pick up a spare burner if you think you're going to be using it a lot.

I have one of those. It was under $100 when I got it few years ago. The stainless is cheap, so it rusts. But I made it sunbrella cover for it on my sailboat. The best product that I've ever found to clean the rust and shit out of it, is the affordable cleaner in Home Depot called Bar helper. It cost $3.49. This shit cleanes everything. Apply thin coat, wait 30 seconds and ztart scrubbing with scotch plastic scrubber. It's miracle in a front of your eyes.

Ya got to oil the grill first, put a little oil on the burger patty also. Then it dont stick so bad. Get a good bristly steel brush to scrub the grill with. Scrape the grill right after grilling then run the heat up high. That will leave it pretty much clean for the next time. For gods sake put some spice on the meat. Ya committing sacrilege over there. Before Y'all start hating on me know this is meant in fun, :) Been grilling for almost 40 years now and have used wood, gas and even random flammable stuff. Salt, pepper, garlic and cayenne is the ante up in this game.
