Love that you are doing the clone wars! I have built two parts kits clones a 440 and 372. The 440 was my first one and really taught me a lot and got me into building. For the price and the fun you get, I think they are great! They are so fun to mess with and try out porting and mods without breaking the bank or feeling guilty for screwing something up.

No kidding. These would be pretty fun to play with. Blowing up a $1000+ saw isn't something I can even consider, but a $250 saw I won't be broken hearted about.

Joe run an 8 pin that saw will easily run it. You have machining tools so you have a huge advantage there. I built one with only porting and base gasket delete and it still had a terrible squish clearance I believe it was around 40 tho. I timed several runs between a 7 and 8 pin and the 8 won by a pretty substantial amount.

I need to send you a saw or two. Gonna have to figure out how to advance my 372 clone
@travisweldmaster78158 ай бұрын
Ooh ooh, JOE TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE TIMING ADVANCE! how many degrees? Did you cut the key way wider in the correct direction and shove 2 keys in there? Or weld it in and cut a new keyway? My ooold 372xp, hozzlforma, I ported very mildly, piped it with uncle harve pipe out of anodized aluminum pipe, and big bored, pop up, still seems like it's got a lot more to offer
@royb.14418 ай бұрын
Can you show how you check ignition timing on a saw? I’ve always just used a timing wheel to see how much cutting the key advanced it and then just going by feel of how it did….but I’d like to see like actual timing numbers with a light? Like to see where it’s firing? The reason I ask is I have heard these clone 372s are having some poor ignition timing where as in the past these 372s are kinda known for not needing ignition timing advanced. Vs for example a 272 you almost always can get some gains by cutting the key .030 or .020

Streamlight stylus reach is this one. Only thing I dont like is it uses "AAAA" Size batteries. But it fits 10mm plug holes.

First video of yours I've watched. You Tube algorithm recommend it. Around 30 years ago, two stroke tuning was much better known by various racers, motorcycle, snowmobile and boat with larger motors making 50~200bhp from 125~750cc motors (and more when cooling available on boat motors running around 80 deg C) Seems the chainsaw guys are the only people doing it nowadays? What is the capacity of the motor? Does it relate to model number ? (eg, 372 is 72cc?)

Please file the outside side of the cutters, so that the drag of chain is reduced. Ie, the cutters are narrower closer to the bar.

What would be a hot fuel I could use on a firewood saw? 100cc
@dynojoemods27648 ай бұрын
Can try more octane and a timing advance. But fuel alone won't change power output dramatically.

Why did the torque go down?
@dynojoemods27648 ай бұрын
Part of that could have been the saw was way more heat soaked than normal. But it isn't super high compression with the higher exhaust roof either.

I'm confused as to how an assembly that goes up and down affects the balance of an assembly that goes round and round. (On a single cylinder unit)
@dynojoemods27648 ай бұрын
The counter weight on the crankshaft has to counteract the forces of the up and down weight. In a single cylinder you cannot achieve a perfect balance, but you can balance for a certain rpm range. Where the forces cancel out most of the harmful vibrations. But it is only effective in a short rpm window.
@mikezupancic21828 ай бұрын
@dynojoemods2764 thank you. I was aware of how a rotating assembly in a V8 for example would need to be balanced, but I couldn't understand how a single cylinder would be affected.
