Happy birthday, Porter :)
I know that if I had spent more time working on this arrangement, it would've probably come out sounding smoother, well-practiced, natural. But I really wanted to learn this in time for Porter's birthday so I bashed my brains in trying to memorize the lyrics and the heart of this song, and I hope it came out alright. I really do love this song, though.
Also, I told myself that if I worked extremely hard to get this video out in a day, it would somehow make me eligible to receive forgiveness from my patrons and subscribers for being too busy with church activities to post a video the past month and a half... 🥺🤍
My own brother's birthday is today (same year as Porter!) as well and I did not learn a song for him hahahaha

I don’t hate this song, I’m just scared to listen to it. That surreal feeling of loss and sadness, the kind most people would probably only feel in dreams. It so realistically recreates that feeling. “Don’t look for me, I’m just a story you’ve been told” That damn line

Even the music video seems to suggest suicide. Xayah was about to jump off the school roof, and kaisa seems to have wanted to go to sleep by the suicide forest. If it wasnt for their friends pulling them out of their delusions, they wouldnt have made it. Guess moral of the story is to hug your friends everyday cause you just never know

@@shady95WildRift in the music video for the song, at 1:39, xayah was about to fall off the roof, and at 2:08, kaisa seems to have been waking up in a forest. Might be a total coincidence, but given that the theme of the song is about a friend saving another friend from depression / suicide (preventing someone from "getting used to the vines that keep you tethered to your room", preventing someone from believing in their own lies of "don’t look for me; I'm just a story you've been told", because "if I was gone tomorrow, won't the waves crash on?", so "I gotta stop makin' promises I can't keep" --> these are all very common things a person says before they commit suicide); the fact that jumping from the school roof, and doing the deed in the infamous suicide forest are 2 of the most common ways young people commit suicide in Japan, the music strongly hints (at least to me), that this is about friends saving friends from jumping off the deep end. At the end of the day, your friends bring you back to reality (even if it's harder to deal with); and prevent you from chasing your own dark fantasies to your own end; forcing you to come to terms with yourself. And even though it's harder to continue living in reality where there might not be a happy ending, it's the right thing to do, and friends will be there to help you do it.

oh my.. quite a paragraph.. @@universalsorrow I know the how story went.. but why would you need to think it in a very dark way.. 1. Yes.. Xayah is depressed bcuz of all that happen to her but remember she was corrupted before.. therefore a tiny bit of her dark side may take over her due to the overwhelming emotions making her delusional by her memory with Rakan.. 2. Kai'Sa however... She's probably alr with all her friends, lying down, resting (yes coincidentally,) in the middle of a forest.. she's _probably_ jst remembering someone close to her, getting all the flashbacks not like she wanted to unalive herself 😭 This is jst my pov.. the lyrics has some very strong meaning i gotta admit that.. but a less dark-ish thinking won't hurt.. 😌

@@shady95WildRift i mean could be total coincidence. But again, porter himself mentioned that he was battling depression, and for the longest time, he thought he couldnt write music anymore. A lot of his last album seems to talk about his depression and his overcoming of it. His song look at the sky literally says "look at the sky, im still here, ill be alive next year"

I've been on an absolute binge of all your Porter covers, and WOW they're all so amazing. It's surreal that you actually performed live with him. Honestly, piano videos like this always help keep me motivated. I started playing at the late age of 21 about 10 ish months ago now, and I'm loving it! (Of course, I'm still terrible, but improving slowly) Your covers give me the chills, they're so awesome!
