Orrin Porter Rockwell was a complicated man. He was violent as well as kind, beloved as well as feared. This short film highlights these contrasting aspects of his character as he wrestles with his own larger-than-life legacy.
This independent western short film is a proof of concept made by passionate artists and filmmakers. We hope to tell the whole story of Porter Rockwell in a coming full-length feature film. We love Porter and his history, and this short film is a tribute to his faith, passion, and determination to do what is right - no matter how hard.

Really awesome job on this, guys! I'm sad I wasn't able to be a part of it, but the character really came together. It made me want more of his story. It also didn't mirror your low budget in any sense. Great work all around.

*This was marvelous & the cinematography does justice to the performance of the film. Loved it, what a legend. Porter Rockwell (Jasen Wade) reminds me of John Marston here*

I am a direct Great Great Grandson of Port. One might imagine my surprise and elation on seeing this. You guys did a great job with it. My only negative is, there is so much more to tell about gramps that has never been told in film. It's a crying shame, too. He was a great man, devoted, tough as nails, with a heart as big as Texas. I so wish for a good full length movie on him that tells the truth especially the truth. Keep up the great stuff guys and who knows, maybe one day you can put together a full length movie on him.

Yes they were! His name isn't spoken in the film but if you watch at 2:11 the man who stands up and says "can we help you" is James Jepson. Check the end credits, his name is at about 9:20

Actually, Joseph Smith never said anything about Porter needing to avoid cutting his hair. He simply said that no blade or bullet would harm Porter if Porter kept his covenants with his God. Porter later stated that keeping his hair long was his own token that he was offering to outwardly show he was keeping those covenants.

The words Joseph says in their scene together were word from word of the account of that night, so he did in fact state that Porter shouldn't cut his hair. However, Porter later realized that his long hair was only symbolic to keeping his covenants. Later in life he would cut it and grow it out again as he learned that lesson. If we're able to make our feature, that is an essential part of his character arc!
