10 years ago, he was making this, "banger", "dumb" music, that is somehow some of the best of this genre (I'm only hearing these now). This and Easy and Language. He was making very very electronic "hits", dubstep, house, and they still sounded amazing. You can hear his true artistic self coming out even in these, but there's a huge amount of him trying to conform to normal EDM (though, VERY creatively and well.) 6 years ago, he created the greatest album, the masterpiece that is WORLDS. I don't even have words for this album, if you've heard it you know. But it's like he completely stopped caring about music making tropes and just, MADE music. And, what we got is something that is more standout than any other music out there. 4 years ago, he worked on Shelter. It's beautiful. What can I say? Every note is intentional and beautiful. 3 years ago, he decided to create and alias named Virtual Self, where he could just experiment and run with the lack of inspiration he was experiencing. (again, just hearing this now, but wow.) He mixed early 2000's EDM music that was just becoming existent, and made it his own. It sounds so old school, while being nicely familiar. what we got was, well, unique. It's nothing like Worlds, but it's so creative and very free, as his only constraints were "be weird". If you wanna go DEEP into Porter's music or Electronic Music in general, go listen. Such a beautiful genre we have. Finally, the sequel to Worlds, his second album ever, NURTURE, came to be, and was released earlier this year (for you people in the future, 2021). He flipped edm on it's head. The album is beautiful, emotional, and really just let's Porter release his soul in audio form. It's creative and 10/10 production, while...hardly being what normal people would consider electronic. There are no dubstep wobbles, no 808's, no house drops, just pure, unhindered, creative, beautiful MUSIC. And it's so connected to the story it's telling. An artist who finally sees the world for it's beauty. Where Worlds escapes, Nurture embraces reality. And it's beautiful. Every song this man makes is art. This EP shows so much artist potential, that we soon get to see. If you don't settle for just doing what's easy or popular, you might create "something good, oh, something good". (btw, this EP is insanely cool) WORLDS shows us where music (not just electronic music) can go. It's the closest to heaven music has ever taken me in of itself, and wow, everything about it is the best, EVER. I can't really praise it in just one paragraph, but it's just showing how you can use a genre as a filter for whatever you are to create. Virtual self shows how to be experimental. Not a lot to talk about, but it's very interesting and I like it. Go listen. Nurture shows healing. It lets go of its genre and just soars on its composition. It's transforming. It started with dubstep. it ended, with the masterpiece that is Nurture. The healing music that we love. Thanks Porter.

I remember seeing porter live over a year ago. The whole time I noticed he was progressing backwards through his discography and said to my friends that I hoped he played spitfire, cuz that's how I discovered porter. Then he played it and asked how many people in the crowd have been listening since spitfire. There were lots of cheers, but I highly doubt that many people in Minneapolis have actually been listening that long. Also made me realize that I've been listening to porter since the beginning. He's come a long way.

Really gets to me how so much trash gets on the radio. Then there is all the freaking amazing edm producers that dont get that sort of exposure. Its a shame with the amount of trash on radio and the amount of good tracks that lots of people have not even heard. This song and all of porters songs give me amazing vibes. You're truly amazing.

I can agree that Porter makes lovely music, but what is really considered "good" is based more on perspective than anything. I myself think that the tracks on the radio are not necessarily as good as any EDM or house track, but most of the population enjoy things like pop music. Hence the name. Essentially the only reason things like hip hop and pop are on the radio (Other than artist endorsement) is that more people enjoy them rather than electronic. Whenever I turn on the radio I can't help but cringe at some of the things that are played, but sometimes I do hear tracks with more electronic influence. There IS hope.

This EP became 10 years old 10 days ago, It's amazing how far Porter has gone, although he might not like it, this song, like many of his early works are memorable and show growth. Spitfire wasn't the first work I remember listening from Porter, I think it was "Easy" but I never knew who made it, I just knew the melody and vocals, but Worlds will always be my favourite from him, literally changed my view on electronic music as a whole I think Porter didn't do anything to celebrate this album after 10 years but it's still a cool gem. Also, how fast does time fly, I dunno lol. Worlds in about 3 more years will also be 10 years old. That will be even more unbelievable. Hoping to be here in August 12th, 2024 c:

The first 2 minutes is my favourite part. Especially 0:35 to 1:37. Middle part is also alright, but I never really appealed to the step-genre with attention-grabbing harsh noises, so I wish that first part was made into a full track with something else. All the remixes I've found just remove my favourite parts and add more step and randomness.

I mostly enjoy 0:33-1:46. It gives me the chills with any good sound system and the right mood. I wish -there was- I knew a track only with that kind of elegant and slow epic buildup, because the whatever-step sounds in the "chorus"/drop are a little boring for me in this track.

Porter I figured out your secret. The intro of this song is based off of Pachelbel's Canon in D I tested this song and Pachelbel's Canon in D and they matched.
@VaporizedDong
@VaporizedDong 9 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not. You are 100% incorrect. Firstly, Pachelbel's canon in D is, as it states, D. Additionally it's in and Ionian mode aka D major, where as this is clearly in aeolian (minor). Porter's song is in F sharp minor. Secondly, Pachelbel's piece revolves around the "four chords of pop," the progression is I, V, vi, iii, IV, I, IV, V. Porter's song's progression is i, VII, VII, v, VI, IV, C#sus, V. Those chords are completely unrelated, with Pachelbel pertaining to the use of the "perfect" chords defined by baroque rules, versus Porter's use of chord repetition and suspensions. And before anyone can say that there is no way that an EDM producer used more complicated music theory than a legendary baroque composer, sorry, but it happened. Not often though. Pachelbel uses very primitive music theory and has written a wide number of extremely sloppy fugues. He was the first "one hit wonder," but that one hit could easily have been written by anybody.

To the guy who says this isn't dubstep, dubstep is defined by a bass drop, which this music certainly contains.
@SALEENS7GTR5
@SALEENS7GTR5 9 жыл бұрын
All electronic music is now based on the drop, it's the part 95% of people listen to and judge a track's quality off of. And it is dubstep because it has a 2-step pattern with heavy automated synth components, not simply because it has a "bass drop".

SaikoRhythm HOLY FUCK. this has to be one of the most stupid comments ever. "Dubstep is defined by a bass drop". You're so fucking clueless. Dubstep is defined by a 130-140 bpm (generally), aswel as a 2-step kick-snare pattern, generally with a snare or a clap in every third step of each bar, and of course the bass wobble, and sub bass, in the majority of songs. Anyway, there is a drop in something like 50 different genres, and that doesn't define shit.
